NEW YORK This summer, hide your bridesmaids.
So warns the promo for this weekend's new movie, "Wedding Crashers", which is about a couple of bachelors who show up at weddings uninvited to prey on lonely bridesmaids and especially desperate female guests.
The movie cashes in on two common stereotypes about weddings: that women hate attending nuptials alone, and that men, realizing how vulnerable weddings make single women feel, use the occasions to their advantage.
But how are true are these generalizations?

If you have Swedish meatballs and lumpia with sweet-and-sour sauce (staples of Officers' Club receptions) the paper plates would get all soggy.
BTW, you're not preaching. I want a wedding mass which I assume a priest will do but I've never checked :o)
From where I stand all women are always looking for something. Why? Because they want everything. The key is to find out what they want. When you do, you're in like Flynn. It's much more than a line, it's a dialog. As long as there's dialog, there's always an opportunity.
LOL!
Just kidding. Not everybody is cut out for a white-trash wedding.
I really think most uptight couples spend more time planning their weddings than they do planning their marriage.
Well, looking back on it, he was not hot at all! Hey, women think men are hot, too. At least the ones after the other thing thought I was pretty and one said "hot." However, I understand from my daughters that if a man says a woman is hot, it means she is slutty. I am not that way, hence my name.
Yes, but where? Also, are they of the right age? Thank you for the good wishes.
You'll want to get your preparation with the priest started, if you haven't already. It can take a while!
Well, I just hit the huge 56! I have been told, even by my doctor, that I look at least 10 years younger. However, I don't seem to attract men that want a relationship. Now, I am too scared to even try to meet one.
You're right. A year can go by really fast.
Some are here on FR!
I think that sounds like a great wedding and reception! That is what I would like to have if I ever get married again.

These rules, I wrote of, aren't peculiar, regional, out of the ordinary.
And since you bring up the Junior League, my daughter and many of her wedding guests, whose weddings she was either a member of the bridal party, or attended, would also pass muster.
These aren't "YANKEE" rules and unless you want to call everyone a YANKEE, who doesn't live in a few Southern states, then you're over reaching. Are Californians YANKEES? Are people who live in Ill. YANKEES? Are people who live in Arizona YANKEES? Are people who live in Texas YANKEES? I've been to weddings in all of those places and all of them have used the same rules I've mentioned.
And it's also valid, then for me, to make comments as to the obvious rudeness of other. What's sauce for the goose, is sauce for the gander and you should get off your high horse. I didn't say that other people her would be heavily criticized for their lack of clothing sense or their accents; but YOU did. Nor that they and their weddings weren't up to snuff re JUNIOR LEAGUE ( ROTFLMSO ! ) criteria, but YOU did and were way off base on that one, to boot. LOL
That it is.
My mom and her best friend are my wedding planners. I had no say in the matter ;-)
Any type of wedding or reception is fine if it's what you want, and if the guests know what to expect. I have no problem with hamburgers and beer at the park, or in the back yard - just want to know in advance so I wear something washable.

I think that's often true. I've known more than one couple who were divorced before the bills from the wedding were paid.
Not when you're pregnant.
Takes forever it seems doesn't it? :-)
That makes a lot of sense, especially on a military base, with people who aren't military people coming in.
