"Last week's terror bombings in London should be seen as a reminder not just that [President] Bush's [Iraq] war was a hideous diversion of focus and resources from the essential battle against terror, but that it has actually increased the danger of terrorist attacks against the U.S. and its allies." A loony rant from British MP George Galloway? No. That's New York Times columnist Bob Herbert yesterday.
Indeed, Mr. Galloway said nearly the same thing hours after Thursday's attack, and was quickly censured. Now we know that it wasn't because of what Mr. Galloway said; it was when he said it. Mr. Herbert knew better to save his "Blame Bush/Blair" comments until after most of the bodies had been counted.
It's frustrating, though hardly surprising, that nearly four years after September 11 the Western left refuses to understand our enemies. On that day, the United States was not in Iraq or Afghanistan. It should be equally as obvious that we weren't in either country when terrorists slaughtered Olympic athletes in Munich in 1972.
But while Messrs. Herbert and Galloway glory in their "enlightened" views, al Qaeda and its affiliates understand us better than we sometimes understand ourselves. They petition Western governments against "hate crimes" -- such as a bill in Britain that would criminalize "religious hatred" aimed primarily at Islam -- and then murder Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh for making a critical movie of Islam. And now, tragically, they slaughter Britons and say it was because of Iraq and Afghanistan. So Mr. Herbert blames Messrs. Bush and Blair.
Lenin had a name for his Western sympathizers. He called them "useful idiots," because they were too busy running public relations for Soviet Russia to realize that they also were in Communism's crosshairs.

I wonder who he would blame if 10 pounds of explosive went off (in the name of Allah) under his wife, kid or mistress?
Excellent point. It's the very thing that I wonder about, every single time that one of these Bush-bashing anti-war, pro-"freedom fighter" dolts opens his or her mouth...........and this includes all of the insane Follywood left when they spout off, too!
Hate to be "mean," but it might be a spectacle to hear Michael Moron say, one more time, "There IS NO TERRORISM!"..........and then KABOOM up his audacious Fatness goes into the wild blue yonder....vaporized into the stratosphere!!"
Thanks for your great observation, Dallas59!

Great editorial; couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks for the post.
I'm still waiting for ANY western leader to identify our enemies as Islamic terrorists. It always seems to be "extremists", or they hijacked a religion, or whatever. But never Islamic terrorists. If it walks like a duck, talks like a duck...! PC kills.
LIberals don't think.
"Why we have to put up with PC these days when we have handed liberals backsides on a plate in election after election, I will never know."
This begs the question, have conservatives won in the recent elections? The answer should be rather obvious.

Where are the truth speaking Conservatives who are willing to tell the world that PC has wounded America and we are bleeding to death?
Excellent phraseology: Not that they can't undertand, but that they won't.
Very revealing and descriptive of typical liberal attitudes. I've thought since I was old enough to have a political opinion that the donkey is such an apt symbol for the democRatic party.
You mean like Senator Zell Miller?
Left MSM/Rats/Liberals = "useful idiots" of Terrorists.
Poor ol Miller. A MArine working with a bunch of traitors. I can imagine him looking at the rest of the crowd asking himself where is someone who understands what patriotism is? Is there anyone in this crowd who knows what it means?
Then there's the side of me that says, "Don't expect to clean sewers for a living and not smell like one.
His faith in the President is unwarranted, IMO. His words about Kerry were right on the mark though.
I know I expect too much from politicians, but that's the way I am.
