Tour de France Stage 10 (live)
Le Tour de France ^

14:14 - Lead Drops To 8’40"

The peloton is now 8’40" behind the seven escapees. The attack was instigated by Posthuma and Brochard in the first kilometer of the stage. These two riders were joined by Krivtsov at the 3km mark. A counter-attack from Sanchez, Facci, Bortolami and Isasi caught the three early escapees at the 16km mark. 14:09 - Eight Complete Teams

There are only eight teams with a full contingent of nine riders still in the Tour. The complete formations are: Discovery Channel, T-Mobile, Rabobank, Cofidis, Quickstep, Bouyges Telecom, Gerolsteiner and Euskaltel. There are 173 riders still in the race. Today’s retiree is Gerrit Glomser. His Lampre-Caffita team-mate Evgeny Petrov didn’t take the start after a doping control conducted by the UCI this morning.

Wow! Fantastic photos! They really tell the story of the last 18 km! It was an amazing stage- a real "heart stopper" as Phil would say. I have been watching the Tour since 1996 and have, of course, seen all of Lance's victories. He has done this time and again and it is simply incredible. He dances on his pedals like it's nothing on HC climbs.
I made my kids and my husband watch the Tivo'd version of today's stage. They are all interested but they want the Cliff Notes!
Now- what the heck happens tomorrow? Two HC climbs, got to be some tired legs in the field..should be very exciting!

I love this race. I love it so. That Rasmussen is something else and I worry about him -- a whole lot. BTW, Jens Voight was bumped out of the race. Had the yellow jersey just two days ago. Didn't make the time. I always liked him; seemed to be a very decent and likeable guy. The next climbs are going to really shake out the field. Already down to 167 riders and 189 started. They are dropping like flies.

Don't worry about Rasmussen - he can't time-trial worth a darn. He lost 3:12 to Lance in the Prologue - who knows how much he'll lose on Stage 20, which is 3 times as long!
