Venezuela is a terrorist sponsoring nation, and Chavez has just recently announced that an attack on Cuba is an attack on Venezeula, and an attack on Venezuela is an attack on Cuba. Their hopes and visions "are one." Citizenship is being handed out like candy to welcomed terrorists. It is a very different country for any of you who might have known this place 10+ years or more ago. Last summer/fall during an extended stay at a slick Caracas hotel (elections, security issues), I stumbled upon middle eastern men several different nights using the hotel's internet system as a "hot spot" in the stairwell. I engaged in conversation with one of the "vacationers." Aside from allowing him to air his extreme political views, he shared that he was on his way to Uruguay and Argentina for touring. (Muslim trinagle?)
I periodically check FR to see if there is news about Chavez/Caracas, but sadly, attention to this growing crisis seems to slip through the radar all too often.
So sorry to hear of your mother-in-laws passing. Hope your husband makes it home soon.
Welcome back, you've been missed.
I agree with you about Chavez/Venezuela. He really does seem to be working under the radar screen. I've only been to South America three times, just enough to really make me nervous about the potential threat from there. Like you, I look for news from there. Don't see much...........yet. But it will explode soon and everyone will wonder, "why didn't we see this coming?"
You have great insight and inside information on the country. Please keep us informed.
Thanks for that post GorillaMa.
That's interesting -- thanks for
sharing that experience.
Actually, there is ongoing interest on Cuba, Venezuela,
etc on FR; just use the FR search button and search key
words. I did on Venezuela and Cuba and I'm going to post
some links of interest in the next post here on this thread and will try to do so, more often.
~~~~~waving hello to GorillaMa.
Nice to see you!
