The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Threat Matrix: U.S. Terrorism
Terrorists could be just getting started
Full Story

New York City and Washington. Bali, Indonesia; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Istanbul, Turkey; Madrid, Spain. And now London.

When will it end? Where will it all lead?

The experts aren't encouraged. One terrorism researcher sees the prospect of "endless" war. Adds the man who tracked Osama bin Laden for the CIA, "I don't think it's even started yet."

U.S. Raises Reward for Suspect in '93 Attack

Twelve years later, one of them is still at large. From AP, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:

BAGHDAD — The U.S. State Department said Monday that it was offering a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to the capture and conviction of the last remaining person wanted in connection with the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center.

In a statement released in the Iraqi capital, the State Department said it was looking for Abdul Rahman Yasin, 45, an Iraqi American who is believed to have helped build the bomb used in the Feb. 26, 1993, attack that killed six people.

The statement described Yasin, for whom the U.S. earlier offered a reward of $2 million, as an epileptic and said he "possibly has a noticeable chemical scar on his right thigh."

Yasin was born in Bloomington, Ind., to Iraqi parents and moved to Iraq when he was young.

Now, if it is revealed that this AQ nuke plan is real (and I believe it is)---what do you think will happen?

If our government had prior knowledge this could be true, it could on one hand evacuate the city, in which case the terrorists would probably select another city to terrorize, or it could remain mute with the possibility of allowing the nuke(s) to go off rendering deaths beyond comprehension. Notifying the residents of a particular city could cause chaos and riots, in addition to terrifying those unable to leave of their own accord (elderly or those without personal transportation). It would be mass hysteria. The movie Mad Max becomes more real with every passing day (sorry, it just seems that way sometimes lately).

I find it sadly ironic that Shahara Islam was a muslim.

There were 2 or 3 Muslims killed from what I could tell. They don't care if they kill their own or innocents - killing everyone they can is what it is all about to them. When I saw the photo of Shahara, I thought the same thing; what a beautiful young woman she was.

Broadcast News
Wednesday, July 13, 2005

VICTORIA -

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The 39-year-old man from Issaquah and his daughter were aboard the Coho ferry that had sailed to Victoria from Port Angeles, Wash.

Victoria police spokesman Rick Anthony says border officers found a suspicious device in the glove box of the man's truck.

He says the copper tube had a fuse attached to it."

Boy, this is getting very depressing. Good find Velveeta. Perhaps it's time to change my tagline to "eat, drink, and be merry today". I'm overwhelmed by all the information that I have been reading these past few days. The only uplifting sign seems to be that local burkas are now selling in bright orange... and okay, I like orange... but please, will I have to wear so much of it all over??

Suspected London bomb maker sought
Newsday ^ | July 14, 2005 | BY KNUT ROYCE AND JOHN RILEY

Posted on 07/13/2005 9:06:37 PM PDT by Liberty Valance

British police and intelligence officials have launched a nationwide manhunt for a man identified as a likely bomb maker in last week's London attacks, who was seen on a security tape with the four suspected bombers, according to a U.S. official.

"They know who No. 5 is," said the official, who has access to substantial intelligence flowing from the bomb investigation but asked to not be identified.

The man was pictured on a closed-circuit security tape with the four bombers just before they entered London's Underground on July 7 with backpacks the police believe contained bombs. He is British and dark-skinned, apparently of Caribbean descent, the official said.

The bombers, who police believe died in apparent suicide attacks, have been identified as Britons of Pakistani ancestry. The official said the fifth man was involved in the assembly of the bombs, but British authorities do not believe he was the mastermind of the plot.

A video camera in King's Cross Station in North London captured the five men huddling together at about 8:30 on the morning of the bombings. Then, said the official, "The four goons [suicide bombers] went their way, and No. 5 went his."

Paper no. 1456

"LONDON BLASTS---FROM PAKISTAN WITH LOVE"
by B.Raman

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "9. If one had been doing this systematically, one would have noticed that:

Pakistan 's Lashkar-e-Toiba (LET) has been co-ordinating the activities of the IIF since 2003 due to the disruption in the command and control of the Al Qaeda.

Three persons arrested by the Pakistani authorities in March,2003, in connection with the attack on USS Cole in October,2000, had told them during the interrogation that since the Western intelligence agencies were keeping a close watch on the suspected Arab members of the Al Qaeda, bin Laden had asked the LET to recruit Pakistani volunteers for suicide missions to be undertaken by the Al Qaeda and that the LET had already placed 12 Pakistani volunteers for suicide missions at the disposal of the Al Qaeda.

Barcelona in Spain , Lisbon in Portugal and Luton and Leeds in the UK have become important centres for the recruitment of volunteers for jihadi terrorism and for the collection of funds.

Apart from the LET and the anti-Shia Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LEJ), the Tablighi Jamaat (TJ) of Pakistan has also set up a presence in the Pakistani and Bangladeshi communities of West Europe .

After the Madrid blasts of March,2004, the largest number of terrorist suspects detained for questioning by the Western intelligence agencies were of Moroccan and Pakistani origin. The security experts of the European Union (EU) had drawn attention to this disturbing development in a report submitted to the EU Paliament in October,2004.

Pakistani volunteers from the UK have been going to Iraq to join the Al Qaeda there headed by Abu Musab-al-Zarqawi,"

Hmm... my "source" (mom!!) described a very dramatic spectacle, with police everywhere, and she's a war survivor.. not one to amp things up. What do you think? Are the 60093's trying to make dainty of this?
