The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

It sounds like Benadryl makes for busy dreams.

Last night I went to a Bob Dylan concert. Consequently when I got to sleep I dreamt about a Bob Dylan concert.

If memory serves me well Ujaama got a plea agreement where he pled guilty to various charges, agreed to testify against Hamza, and spilled some beans to help in terrorism investigations; all of which led to a light sentence. Throw in "time served" and he is out of prison now ready to terrorize again. Ugh.

Something else that did stick clearly in my memory, during the trial Ujaama's attorney said that he (Ujaama) "promised to tell the truth". I remember being both angry and nauseous when I read that in a Seattle newspaper.

ARTICLE SNIPPT: "THOUSANDS of police marksmen will be on London’s streets and rooftops again today after warnings that another team of suicide bombers is plotting a third attack on the capital. The new group is believed to be made up of British Muslims who were understood to be close to staging an attack on the Underground network last week. According to security sources the men are thought to be of Pakistani origin but born and brought up in this country. They have links with the Leeds-based terrorist cell that staged the July 7 attacks, in which 52 innocent people died.

Even with the transport system so heavily guarded, police and intelligence sources believe that the bombers are intent on once more attacking London’s bus and Underground network. Another multiple suicide strike is also intended to demonstrate how the network can call on more recruits. The men are said to have access to explosives.

US security sources said yesterday that this third group of would-be bombers met at Finsbury Park mosque in North London, where some of the July 7 terrorists are also known to have stayed. There are reports that this team originally planned to strike last Thursday, which is why more than 6,000 police, half of them armed, were present at Underground stations. Scotland Yard said at the time that this exercise, the biggest since the Second World War, was to test their resources and reassure a nervous public.

As commuters return to work today police chiefs say that the arrest of five suspected bombers in house raids in Birmingham, London and Rome has not ended this threat. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Peter Clarke, head of the anti-terrorist branch, said: “The threat remains and is very real.”

There is concern among ministers and police at how long officers can continue such an intensive operation to “lock down” London while a threat remains. Although reinforcements have been brought in and leave has been cancelled, resources are stretched to keep up the guard on the capital, which is costing £500,000 a day. Sir Ian Blair, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, admitted that his officers were “very, very tired”.

While the priority is to thwart another strike, police are still investigating links between the attacks on July 7 and the botched operation a fortnight later. They are also hunting for what officers describe as “key logistical players” behind the attacks."

"'Calgary' forum spews hatred
Vile website undermining honourable efforts of moderate Muslims

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "One of the main avenues the MCC does have available to it at all times is the website that is run as the site says "under the direction of Muslim Council of Calgary" (www.calgarymuslims.com).

I logged onto that site and instead of finding moderation and a message of peace, as I had expected and was told was their aim, I was immediately bombarded with vile hatred directed towards Jews -- reams and reams of it and what's worse, there was not one real objection to it listed on the site anywhere.

Right there on the front main page is a contribution by a fella described as "chopchip" under the heading Bismillah 1 (which means in the name of God) which besides saying: "I don't think it's Muslims who are responsible for those bombings (in London)," he goes on to say "but the Jews are really pushing for their final bid to ethnically cleanse the world of non Jews. They think that they are the master race...."

That's the mild stuff, which, incidentally, I have cleaned up for punctuation and grammatical reasons, since this fella uses no capital letters, except when he talks of Allah -- then it's all CAPS, and is an atrocious speller, though I will put even cleaned-up stuff in quotes.

So, click on that and up pops a whole menu of chopchip's charming opinions, all featured rather prominently and without, as I've said, a single objection of any note by any person who has logged onto this, I'm told, popular site."

TASK FORCE LIBERTY SOLDIERS FOIL IED EMPLACEMENT

TIKRIT, Iraq – Task Force Liberty Soldiers detained three terrorists after observing them attempting to emplace a roadside bomb in Samarra July 30.

A group of terrorists was trying to place a 155mm artillery round in a hole one of them had been digging earlier.

One terrorist was killed when the Soldiers engaged the group.

During a search of the area two 155 mm rounds, wire, and a cell phone were found inside a nearby car.

MARINES FIGHT TERRORISTS NEAR HADITHA

CAMP BLUE DIAMOND, AR RAMADI, Iraq – Coalition forces engaged terrorists one mile southeast of Haditha early July 31.

Marines from Regimental Combat Team-2 were attacked with mortar fire from terrorists occupying a local schoolhouse. The building was rigged with explosives and fortified with .30 caliber machine guns in the windows. Coalition forces determined that the school was being used as a weapons cache site.

The engagement began while forces were conducting a cordon and search of the area, during which a weapons cache of rockets was discovered nearby. M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks were in support of the assault on the building. Coalition aircraft also engaged targets within the building. Numerous secondary explosions were observed. Coalition forces on the scene described the secondary explosions as being larger detonations than the bombs that were dropped.

There were no civilian casualties and the school was not in session. Several terrorists were confirmed killed during the incident.
