The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Terrorists could be just getting started
Full Story

New York City and Washington. Bali, Indonesia; Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Istanbul, Turkey; Madrid, Spain. And now London.

When will it end? Where will it all lead?

The experts aren't encouraged. One terrorism researcher sees the prospect of "endless" war. Adds the man who tracked Osama bin Laden for the CIA, "I don't think it's even started yet."

Here's an article with a little more information:

Omar tells Taliban to unite, continue insurgency
25. July 2005, 16:24
By Mirwais Afghan

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (Reuters) - Fugitive Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar has called on supporters to put aside differences and continue their war against the government and foreign forces in Afghanistan, the Taliban said on Monday.

Omar made the call recently in a message via field radio to the Taliban's leadership council, which has been expanded to 18 members, Taliban spokesman Abdul Latif Hakimi said.

A recording of the message purporting to come from Omar was handed over to Reuters in the southern city of Kandahar on Monday by a man who did not identify himself.

In it Omar said: "Unite, and do not disagree, continue your jihad (holy war) and victory will be yours."

Hakimi, who spoke himself from an undisclosed location, did not say where the message was recorded.

He said the leadership council, which previously numbered ten men, now had eight new members, based on a decision by Omar.

Neither he nor the message named the new members.

In the message, Omar told Taliban guerrillas not to harass people while waging war against President Hamid Karzai's government and U.S.-led foreign forces.

"Carry out your works quietly," he said.

Omar did not elaborate on the disagreements he referred to in the call for unity, or the reference to harassing people.

Omar's whereabouts have remained unknown since U.S.-led forces overthrew the Taliban in late 2001 for refusing to hand over Osama bin Laden and other al Qaeda leaders responsible for the Sept. 11 attacks on U.S. cities.

However, some Afghan officials have said they believe the one-eyed Omar is hiding somewhere in neighbouring Pakistan. Bin Laden also remains at large.

WORSENING VIOLENCE

The message is one of only a few from Omar issued to the media. In a written message in March, he dismissed U.S. military claims that he was no longer in control of the insurgency and vowed to step up attacks attacks on Afghan and U.S. forces.

The period since leading up to Sept. 18 parliamentary elections has seen the worst militant violence since U.S.-led forces overthrew the Taliban in late 2001.

Hundreds of people have died, many of them guerrillas, but also many local government officials, police officers and Afghan and foreign troops.

The dead have included 36 U.S. soldiers killed in action, making it the bloodiest period for U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

Most of the violence has been in areas near the border with Pakistan and Afghan officials have repeatedly complained that Taliban attacks are mostly organised in Pakistan.

Pakistan was the Taliban's main supporter until Sept. 11, but became a major U.S. ally in its war on terror.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz visited Kabul on Sunday and pledged that Islamabad would do all it could to stop infiltration of militants ahead of the elections.

While Pakistan has arrested hundreds of al Qaeda militants since 2001, it has detained relatively few Taliban fighters, even though many are thought to have found refuge there.

Last week, however, Pakistani police said security forces arrested a handful of Taliban officials from a refugee camp northwest of Islamabad.

Pakistani newspapers quoted unnamed sources as saying that Mawlavi Abdul Kabir -- a deputy of Omar -- was among them, but senior Pakistani officials were unable to confirm this.

Japan May Begin Early Missile Defense Deployment
July 24, 2005

Deployment of Japan’s missile defense system could begin a year ahead of schedule, Reuters reported yesterday (see GSN, July 22).

The desire to speed up deployment to March 2006 arises from concerns about ballistic missile programs in North Korea and China, the Yomiuri Shimbun quoted Japanese officials as saying.

Patriot Advanced Capability 3 surface-to-air missiles were initially expected to be fielded in late fiscal 2006-2007, which ends in March 2007, according to Yomiuri. One of four Aegis destroyers in the Japanese fleet was scheduled to be equipped with Standard Missile 3 missiles by the end of 2007. Four missile defense-equipped Aegis destroyers and three PAC-3 units would be deployed in all by the end of fiscal 2010-2011, according to the plan.

However, because certain components must be purchased from the United States, the timing of the deployment remains uncertain.

“Due to contractual issues, there is a possibility that it could be hard to drastically bring forward PAC-3 or SM-3 that need to be bought from the United States,” Yomiuri quoted a Defense Ministry source as saying.

The splinter cells lack the discipline of the true AQ cells and are much
more susceptible to discovery. <<<<<<<<<<

I just woke up, so bear with me if I don't make sense, need
infusion of coffee.

Part of your post jumped out at me.

Remember how last year they would give us a date for an attack and then it was 2 to 4 days before an attack came?

You talk of 2 types of cells/gangs/groups of terrorists.

What if the fly away cells make the threat, just talking big, attempt to scare us, etc.......

Then the real alQaeda, has to come in and make the strike, or they will be shown up as fools???

If the real alQ does not make the strike, then they look weak, we laugh at them, and the money and recruits dry up.

Next thought, how can my thoughts be used against them?

We know the punk commie and nazi are now out in full support
of them, and they are making statements that are in the long
run going to harm the terrorist movement.

Since the Egypt attack, I can't tell you how many punks have
called the talk shows and said it was not the jihadies who set the bombs in Egypt, but it is the "Jews" and also 'Mossad and the CIA', everyone knows that Bush is,,,,,etc.

I have heard the punks on Savage, Dr. Bill Wattenberg and they call all the programs at KDWN in Las Vegas.

Ok - my friends, that is my germ of a thought, go with it.

This is the warning in print, that we have been getting bits and pieces of for the past couple weeks.

This morning, a liberal talk show host, explained that the President is going to be in the White House all week, according to him, the Pres wants to be there to push his man through the Congress and get him on the Supreme Court at once, so President Bush will be setting there at the desk all week with his pen in hand..........

i would think that this report is why the President has looked like death warmed over and had so much trouble giving the speeches in the last few weeks.

I am convinced that you can tell what he is battling, by his voice and the mis-use of words.

I think he is under great strain right now and this would do it to any leader.

AD, I've been getting a very uneasy feeling, too, to the point that it's affecting me physically. That usually doesn't happen. I feel just the way I do when I know a hurricane is on the way.

Ferry Evacuated, Searched After Report of Threat (Juneau, Alaska - 7/25/05)

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — A hotel employee who reported overhearing threatening comments led to the evacuation and search of an Alaska state ferry.

Juneau police Sgt. Kris Sell said a hotel clerk in Haines overheard a 20-year-old Oregon man say that if he was not allowed to load his disabled car on to the ferry, he would blow the ferry up. The man reportedly made additional comments about blowing up things.

The hotel clerk told her boyfriend, who is employed on the ferry Malaspina. The employee reported the threats to staff at the Auke Bay Ferry Terminal in Juneau...

Could the last 4 bombs that didn't go off contained some kind of bio
warfare what ever and we are just waiting for illnesses in England to
show up? anyone?<<<<<<<<<

I would think that is they had added the germ powder to the explosive, it might very well ruin the explosion.

That leads me back to my thought of the punks who are doing
part of the attacks.

Take it a step further, are the punks the younger brothers,
of the 7-7 attackers, who knew where the explosive was hidden and thought that they knew enough to make a bomb?

It is the nails that are in the post with the photo of the container, that would be the give away, as in Israel the nails are soaked in the Bio, so they will break the skin and allow the germs to go into the blood.

The Palestine bombers like to add the nails.

U.S. Embassy in Saudia Arabia warns Americans that militant plots are likely

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — The U.S. Embassy warned Americans in Saudi Arabia on Monday that militants are likely plotting new terror attacks in the kingdom.

The embassy’s message, posted on its Web site, said there were “continued indications of operational planning for a terrorist attack or attacks” in Saudi Arabia. It offered no specific information.

“U.S. military personnel stationed in Saudi Arabia have been instructed to suspend all non-duty related leisure travel outside of their work or housing stations,” the message said. It urged Americans to be vigilant and avoid areas frequented by Westerners.

It was the second such warning posted in the past week by the embassy in Riyadh.

Also Monday, Saudi security forces detained a wanted Saudi-born al-Qaida operative, Mohammed Saeed Mohammed al-Sayam al-Umari, 25, in Medina, one of Islam’s holiest cities.

No further details were provided.
