The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

That's an eye-opening article. Talk about what we don't know. I never heard about the bomb that was found and defused at the baggage gate of an Alitalia Airlines plane. Officials believe a terrorist intended to place the bomb aboard the aircraft.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "JERUSALEM — A bomber blew himself up among a group of teens near a shopping mall in the seaside city of Netanya on Tuesday, killing himself and two others in the second such attack since a truce was declared five months ago.

About 30 people were wounded, two seriously, police said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility from a Palestinian militant group. The previous bombing was carried out by Islamic Jihad (search), which said in a statement after Tuesday's attack that it remained committed to the cease-fire.

The blast went off shortly before 7 p.m. near the Sharon Mall in Netanya (search). Police said a preliminary investigation indicated the bomber blew himself up among a group of teenagers crossing a busy intersection."

Italy Official Says Parliament Should Adopt Tougher Measures Amid New Fears of Terrorist Attack

ROME Jul 12, 2005 — Terrorism is "knocking on Italy's door" and parliament should adopt tougher measures, including allowing police to detain suspects longer without charge, the interior minister said Tuesday.

Interior Minister Giuseppe Pisanu unveiled the package to parliament amid increased fears of a terrorist attack in Italy after Thursday's bombings in London.

The measures would include giving police greater investigative powers.....

GAZA, July 12 (KUNA) -- The Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the suicide attack against in Israel's northern city of Netanya Tuesday that killed three and injured scores others, Israel's radio said.

"The attacker is an activist of the Quds brigades," said the radio.

It added that the attacker, whose identity was not revealed, was from Atil town near the west bank city of Tulkarm.

The radio said the "execution of this operation and its success is a great failure for the Israeli security bodies" namely after the intensive apprehensions of the Islamic Jihad's activities in the past weeks.
