Bob Woodward mounted a vigorous defense of Karl Rove on Larry King Live against the accusation that he leaked the secret identity of a CIA undercover agent. He cautioned against jumping to conclusions and said there is no evidence that Rove disclosed the identity of Wilson's wife. He also went on to say that Rover was simply "talking about her", and may not have known her position as a secret, undercover agent. As such, Woodward maintained, Rove did NOT compromise national security or put anyone's life in danger.
What I find interesting is the complete failure of the press to report that Wilson himself put his wife's name in his entry in Whos Who in America - that is, anyone who wanted to find out Wilson's wife's name only had to consult a common document. So if someone in White House said, "Wilson got the gig because his wife recommended him", it is Wilson himself who is resonsible for a reporter consulting Whos Who to report "Valerie Plame, Wilson's wife, .....".
Any bets on how long it is before they start attacking eachother?
I like how the Leftist fanatics have discovered the "t-word" here lately. If recent history is any guide, they discovered it at about the same time ordinary Americans began to understand that liberals loathe America and everything it represents.
Not to worry. It won't be long before they insist that one man's traitor is another man's patriot.
In addition -- he's trying to create an atmosphere of "no law broken" so that when it's revealed that it was a reporter who outed Plame, the public will have been trained to say "no law broken."
"I'd still like to know why Wilson was sent to Niger for the CIA."
There are elements in the CIA that have opposed Bush's policy to invade Iraq. Maybe they saw Wilson as a helpful stooge who would discredit Bush.
I think more investigation should have been made into this question of why Wilson was sent, as he had few qualifications for this assignment and did not do any in-depth investigating when he was there.
David Gergen on Lou Dobbs also was reluctant to condemn Rove, and the latter kept questioning him just like King did with Woodward.
Think the WhiteHouse is playing another "Rope A Dopey Liberal" ...you betcha!
But the idea that Plame was a "secret agent man" has now become the official party line. Is there any evidence that she was actually a undercover agent? If there is, I haven't seen it.
Apparently I'm the only one who saw Woodward on LKL way back in 2003 when this story first got kick-started and he said then what he's saying now.
This is not new.
