Scientology Anyone?

Posted on 07/11/2005 5:53:28 PM PDT by GunnyBob

OK, Gunny needs help. No, seriously.

I am researching Scientology and just read that practitioners believe in several gods. Is this true? If it is, what are their names? Their powers?

Has anyone had experience in "deprogramming" a victim of Scientology?

Thanks.

There's a book on cults my husband has....I'll post the name of it tonight when I get home. It has a lot of info on Scientology...Wacko stuff. They believe aliens invaded the earth years ago and got into the human's brains and corrupted them...something of that sort. L. Ron Hubbard's son changed his name so he wouldn't be associated with his father. He said his father was a narcissistic nutcase.

Scietology can be difficult for people to give up, since getting in takes a large financial committment. The whole economic doctrine of sunk costs starts to kick in.

lots of gods based on 50-60's tech and scifi. Stuff like flying in space in DC-10s and auto racing on hydrogen bomb mind tracks with names like speedy bullet etc... its quite a joke.

You'll probably get many informative replies to your question, some of which will probably amaze you.

But my advise would be, it's coercive, it's a cult, stay away. Like Islam is a cult, because it is coercive. I've just recently come to the decision.

I told my doctor that lately I was down and out, so he prescribed a Thetan re-uptake inhibitor.

Scientology is nothing but a (lousy) sci-fi writer who turned one of his stories into a religion. The story is so awful that even a freshman creative writing student would get an "F" if he submitted it. Why couldn't they create a cult from a decent writer at least, like Clarke, Bradbury or Asimov? Even the Jedi "followers" have a "religion" which makes much more sense than this Dianetics garbage. Will the IRS give a tax-emempt status to Lucasfilm? Insanity.

The other day I was perusing the local fish wrap. I came to the religion page and was amazed at the article I saw on scientology.....very PC placement. It's a cult by a very bad (except for Battlefield Earth) sci-fi writer and well known nutcase

That would explain a whole bunch of Democratic behaviour in the last 10 years or so.

Gunny, Pick Peter Boyles brain. He's got the gouge particularly about the volcano.

Check out the following link to see what Scientology can do to people.
