That's an interpretation that makes sense. He didn't want his disciples to be seen defenseless during the melee of his arrest.

Despite your tagline, and despite my staunch belief in the aggressive defense of my country, I still have doubts about whether Christ would approve of us Christians waging war and killing for any reason.

God the Father wreaks vengeance when it is due, and He uses many means, including our Army to free the Iraqis from their long suffering.

So, it is confusing to me that God the Son doesn't want me personally to kill or resist those who do evil against me.

[ But your still presumptuous and ignorant to say that a billion people don't understand a document they read daily; but that you who has read a few translated excerpts have more expertise than they. ]

You'll know a tree by its fruit..

Jesus came to make ALL religions obsolete, AND DID..
Including most christian religion, which is really a business..

Islam is not a religion or even a cult.. Its a GANG..
And Sharia law is MOB RULE.. like democracy is.. they are BOTH MOB Rule..

[ Freep would otherwise risk become a breeding ground for religious bigotry and hatred, rather than a champion of the conservative cause (yes, both are indeed mutually exclusive). ]

Well, wishful thinking or not, we'll never do that unless it got so bad we have no choice. It won't come to that, I'm sure. I'm not into killing the innocent.

I'm woundering if the SEAL did'nt survive on his own, perhaps having to hide from the villagers.
I'm no expert and I don't know anything except what's reported here. I'm going to say, though, that your post is an odd one. If our forces wanted to "setup" a village for destruction by the Taliban, I imagine that there are a lot more direct methods than this one. [Recall Occam's Razor.] I don't find it odd that a village would protect this SEAL. Local folk detested the Taliban for its harshness, and I also imagine that they'd be anxious to curry favor with US forces. They'd stand to get a lot more from them materially than the Taliban.

We are not a democracy, we are a republic.

Here is what Thomas Jefferson had to say about religious liberty in general and Muslims in specific...

Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed by inserting "Jesus Christ," so that it would read "A departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;" the insertion was rejected by the great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination.

-Thomas Jefferson, Autobiography, in reference to the Virginia Act for Religious Freedom

Now do you really think Jefferson was ignorant of what the religion of Islam entailed? But maybe you know better than Thomas Jefferson, the Constitution, and 990 million Muslims who think that showing mercy to the weak rather than targeting them is the true path of Islam.

[ We are not a democracy, we are a republic. ]

dUUUUh..
Actually we are are a unique republic..
A banana republic is not a republic at all, its a democracy..

No other government on earth past or present had or has rights given by authority of God.. instead of privileges granted by a government.. We do in the U.S...

Democracy is Mob Rule and Islam is Mob Rule too,, actually ALL forms of government ever invented EXCEPT that in the United States IS Mob Rule.. The strongest MOB wins and rules.. even Monarchy and Oliarchy are Mob Rule.. even Anarchy is Mob Rule..

If America degrades... it will degrade to Mob Rule and a democracy.. Which would delight every single democrat.. and not a few republicans..

Occam's razor.

Possibility one: The villagers helped the SEAL. Implication: The US government is more interested in home front moral then not hurting the villagers who actually helped the SEAL.

Possibllity two: The SEAL evaded and escaped the Taliban and the villagers both (to the extent there is a distintion). The US government is making the taliban doubt who their allies are.

Do you know much games theory? It's not about putting the hurt on one village. It's about making the taliban not trust any villages.

What is the government motivation for telling the world if the villagers helped the SEAL. Remember Occam.

BTW there's a lot of bad stuff in the Hadith too, not just the Koran. Was just listening to Ergun Caner this morning, who is working on a full version English commentary on the Koran (he and his brother are ex muslims, disowned by his family etc. and both are professors of theology now and born again Christians.) -- he was talking about how he, raised as a Sunni under his cleric father, was indoctrinated with the theory of jihad.

The Hadith says that if you convert from Islam to anything else, you are to be killed. Period. And that the the lowest level of hell is reserved for bad (moderate) muslims, while the Christians and Jews will be in higher levels of hell.

!!! How's that for tolerance.

Do they read the Hadith daily too?

Oh, and Christians have NEVER killed someone for not believing the same way that they do (other than Jews, Abiginsians, Cathars, Heliocentrics, Pagans, and Protestants). This IN SPITE of what their book says, not because of it.

You answered your question right there. In spite of the book. My contention is that their books and writings DO say to kill the way they are killing.

Read Hebrews. It is blood curdling.

The OT definitly says to kill outsiders.

If you accept the OT as historical then you must accept it as the oldest human account of genocide (perhaps there is an older one that I am unaware of).
