Audrey was most likely a 4.I think her lowest pressure was 946. May be wrong on that though.

Did I hear somewhere that Dennis is different because it's "tighter" or something?

?

I'm a Brewers fan from Milwaukee area watching the Braves pitcher just slip and fall after a pitch.

Raining hard at Turner Field now.

I don't know what the hell the umpires are thinking. They have the crews out pouring dirt on the infield. This rain isn't going anywhere.

I have family on the Alabama Gulf Coast so I understand. People deal with stress in different ways. One of mine is to crack jokes. Sorry.

We're just getting bands of rain and wind, but local TV stations are running warnings and the info to report power outages and such.

I've been outside between the bands trying to coax the cats to actually go out into the rain with mixed success.

Oh, we're on the opposite side of the Hooch and upstream about 3 river miles from Nancy Creek.

That creek has just become more and more of a problem with every square foot that gets paved upstream! They're putting a big flood control project in where Roswell Road crosses the creek, but it's like using a squirt gun on a forest fire.

My daughter's school borders Nancy Creek - I bet the football field is underwater right now!

If we get a LOT more water, the intersection of Paces Ferry and Woodland Brook will go under water (where Canoe restaurant and Lovett School are), as well as a mile or so of Woodland Brook downstream. Are you familiar with the Vinings Indian Mounds? Million dollar houses that some idiot built on artificial mounds in the middle of the flood plain. When we get a big storm, they turn into islands. The guy closest to the Hooch has a boat tied up to his tennis court fence, and his Hummer is fitted with a snorkel < no really >

But the Vinings Flood is just a HUGE excuse for a party around here. The last flood we had, a local church group brought a couple of canoes, a john boat, and a portable grill down to the "beach" (the intersection of Woodland Brook and Brandy Station) and had a very good party. We had brought our kayaks down to paddle around (NOT in the main current - we stay well away from that, up in the trees) and were invited to stay and partake of a hamburger or two. So we did.

Where is your husband in Mississippi? I'm in Ridgeland. Our local forecasters just said we are under an inland tropical storm watch. It's already cloudy and windy, but we won't get much here. Both Camille and Andrew came through central Mississippi as tropical storms. All we got was a few tornado warnings and a lot of rain.

We're just over the Bayway from St. Pete Beach. Wind has been pretty much out of the east, so the beach is probably okay for now.

As the storm moves further north, we'll probably get some beach action.

Our main issue will be high tides in the Bay. If a passing hurricane in the Gulf happens to be in a particular position during high tide, it forces all that water up into the Bay and it has no place to go but over the seawalls and into homes.

I haven't heard much about what they're anticipating for tides in the Bay.

I'll have to ping NautiNurse on that one...she lives on the water.

But what do you do to make yourself safe? Just board up the windows? Where do you go in the house?

During Ivan we did the same thing. Until a few minutes ago they were saying Dennis would hit as a cat 2, maybe 3. Shows how much they know. hahahhahhah We'll probably go to the NE side in front of the house. During Ivan it got pretty intense so we turned the two couches there upside down in case we had to duck in a hurry. LOL

well the inner core is smaller and tigher wound than most Cat 4 storms generally are. This is why Charley wound up so quickly is because it was relatively small for a storm that strong.

Dennis isn't huge, but it IS smaller than most Hurricanes of this magnitude. That is changing though, Dennis is gaining size as well as strength right now....

Being that you are west of us in Orlando, you should get it worse but a bit later.

This is the Brewers only trip into Turner field this year. It is obvious that tomorrow is going tobe rained out, so they want to get this game in so the teams only have to find time to make up one game.

Also, once a game is "official" they will try everything possible to get it to 9 innings.

Do you have any suggestions for places to stay?

Check back with me near the end of hurricane season...real estate is changing rapidly around here. Hotels are going condo, rentals are selling for vacation homes, etc.

There was never a press conference with Ray Nagin (New Orleans mayor) and www.wwl.com is still running the banner that it will be at 5 PM. Sorry for the misinformation.
