I think you all have misunderstood the point I was trying to make. The original arguement was that this story had been already posted. Reposting it without searching to see if it had already been posted is the fault of the person who posted it now, not mine for not having seen it before.

If it had been posted yesterday and I didn't get online yesterday then how would I know it even existed or why would I search for keywords such as "protest warrior"? I wouldn't. I know perfectly well how to use the search functions if I know what I am looking for.

You SHOULD. That's the point. If you performed a search before posting you'll avoid duplicates. It doesn't matter when you were on the board last. That was my point. Before you called me a "smartass" and became rude. Typically a news story isn't out more than 3 minutes before it appears on FR. Thus, if you search before posting, no matter how long you've been away from the board, it'll show up. You know, every post isn't a challenge to your manhood or something that you have to come down like a hammer on people. Relax. I was sincerely trying to be helpful. sheesh.

Are you assuming I posted this story? Or are you just missing my point? Say there was a good editorial in my newspaper and it had been posted. You don't know the name of the paper nor the title or who wrote it or when it was posted. Go and search for it. What would you look for? And the bigger question is WHY would you go look for something if you didn't know it even existed?

You'd have to have a title to post the article, right? You're suppose to even have a url as I understand it. The original title of the article is suppose to be used for all postings (I'm not saying that's what happens, but that's what the modz would like to see happen). Therefore, if you search using the title of the article you wish to post, if it has been previously posted, it will come up in the search. So, if you have a story you want to post called, "Brad Pitt hospitalized in Los Angeles", and run a search on "Brad Pitt hospitalized in Los Angeles" or even "Brad Pitt", the story should show up.

It's a precaution so you don't duplicate stories and use up bandwidth as I understand it(we gotta be careful here because we are exploring the outer regions of my personal knowledge of the net).
