William Rehnquist to Retire - the Republican Fix is On
Christian Wire Service/ ^ | July 9 05 | Rev. Flip Benham

Posted on 07/09/2005 10:43:59 AM PDT by churchillbuff

The following is a statement from Reverend Flip Benham, Director of Operation Save America, on the apparently imminent resignation of U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist:

"Note well that to the surprise of all, Sandra Day O'Connor was the first to retire from the Supreme Court. In truth her retirement was a well-choreographed maneuver. It tested the waters to find out how the conservative base would react to the nomination of Alberto R. Gonzales. The reaction was not good. But, with the retirement of William Rehnquist, the way is now paved for Alberto Gonzales to be nominated by President Bush to fill one of the vacancies on the Supreme Court.

"Pretty Slick! President Bush is now able to appease both sides of the aisle. This is what he did so well as governor of Texas. He appeases his conservative base by giving it a strong conservative voice (strict constructionist) to replace Rehnquist, while placating the Democrats by giving them Alberto R. Gonzales.

"Bottom Line: The Supreme Court of the United States of America will be left in exactly the same ideological shape as it was before the vacancies of O'Connor and Rehnquist.

"Sure the Democrats will howl 'foul' over any nomination the President places before them. That's what they do best. But all that howling will be tongue in cheek. For they know they will have preserved the Supreme Court of the United States of America to continue promoting abortion, homosexuality, and removing every vestige of Christianity from the public arena.

"Reminiscent isn't it, of what Senator Minority Leader Reid did when he snatched victory out of the jaws of defeat by backing down the Republican majority over the filibuster fiasco? He howled before the cameras at how much the Democrats had given up to maintain the collegiality and integrity of the Senate and then laughed all the way to his home in the pit of hell.

"When will we Christians learn that we cannot depend upon Republicans to fight our Lord's battles!"

I hope the "Rev. Flip" is wrong - - but I won't be terribly surprised if he's right.

Egads! Then down with SCOTUS! Wish Judge Roy Moore would get a nod for SCOTUS. That's wishful thinking.

No one knows if there is or isn't a fix. There are many opinions.

We will see in due time. Most often, it is the things we least expect to happen that happens.

Especially with President Bush but that doesn't keep the naysayers from their appointed rounds or should that be screams?

"When will we Christians learn that we cannot depend upon Republicans to fight our Lord's battles!"
Who was ever under the impression that they would? The Republicans are a political party.

The main reason that I don't like Gonzales is because the Dems have made it pretty clear that they wont fight his nomination. If they wont fight it, I don't want it!

I'd rather see a democrat fixed than a Republican fixed.

Of course, with rampant abortion taking place in their ranks, democrats are as good as fixed....

I am not all that convinced that Bush really wants to change the trajectory of the Court not does he have the political capital to win a protracted confirmation battle.

Then what's the point of electing "conservatives" as POTUS? Leftist candidates make no bones about their intention to alter the balance of the court, why should "conservatives" have to maintain the status quo? At that rate, the best we can hope for is to alternate between periods of losing ground and periods of not losing ground. What about all the ground we've already lost? What about looking at balance from a historical point of view and not just with respect to these two replacements? The court has shifted far to the left relative to the times of the Founders and "balance" needs to be restored by constructionist nominees. It's just depressing.

The President's focus needs to be the War as we are a a tipping point in defeating terrorism. If he gets into a tough confirmation battle against the Democrats and the 5 or six RINOS in the Senate he will ave to expend more political capital. And with approval ratings below 50% he does not have much to spend.

Aint gonna happen! Gonzales will be racked over the coals for his supposed torture opinions as well as from a legal standpoint it makes no sense. Alot of the opinions coming up involve the govt. Gonzales would have to recuse himself due to conflict in interest. So Bush would automatically loose most cases. Be more of a hassle then he's worth!

Which previous judicial appointment has the President made that leads you to believe he will appoint anyone who is not a conservative? I have yet to see one, but maybe you can enlighten me.

With that comment you have outed yourself as a liberal. According to you, we should just surrender everything of value on the domestic front in order to continue fighting this PC so-called war on terror.

I don't give a rat's A$$ if the Iraqis get thier "freedom" if it means we are loose ours!!!!!!!!!!!!

The supreme court is 10x more important than this ridiculous war in which we are too afraid to even name our enemies lest we offend them

How could anything, the WOT included, be more important than the last change conservatives may have to restore and preserve the role of the Constitution?

Methinks the good "reverend" should go back where he came from.  Fact is Bush and the Republicans have been preparing for this issue for MONTHS...  Although the O'Conner retirement is a surprise, the preparations to bring in a conservative jurist is well prepared, underway, and financially well-backed.

Through all of the hysteria, one thing Bush HAS done (to the horror of the DemonRats) is tried to keep his word and his campaign promises, even when it's not popular.

He said during the elections we'd get a strict constructionist, then that's what we'll get...
