15-Year LAPD Officer Accused Of Illegal Sex Acts With Teen
LOS ANGELES -- A 15-year Los Angeles Police Department officer was arrested for allegedly committing illegal sex acts with a teenage boy
International Airport. LAPD officers and FBI agents met Stan when he returned from vacation.
He is accused of multiple sex acts involving a 15-year-old boy over the past three years. He was booked for "oral copulation with a minor."
According to an LAPD statement, "The investigation disclosed multiple illegal sexual acts involving Stan and a 15-year-old male victim. The acts occurred in the city of Simi Valley over the past three years."
Stan was arrested following a task-force investigation by the LAPD's Professional Standards Bureau and the FBI's Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Team.
Stan has been assigned to the Devonshire Police Station since 1991. He has been a youth services officer for about one year. He also worked with the Explorer program.
In a statement, LAPD Chief William Bratton said:
"Every effort will be made to determine the full extent of Stan's activities. I am gratified by the task force's thorough investigation and the victim's courage in coming forward.
"I want to apologize personally and on behalf of the department to the victim and his family for the violation of trust that we allege was committed by Officer Stan.
"The Explorer Program is one of the best youth programs around, and we will be looking to add additional safeguards to protect its membership."
Lt. Paul Vernon of the LAPD said the boy was not part of the Explorer program. He said authorities are not sure how Stan met the boy or if the teen was the only victim.
"We don't know if there are other victims," Vernon said. "If there are other victims, we ask them to come forward."
Bond was set at $2.5 million.
Investigators said there might be other victims.
