Billy Graham's Daughter Arrested for Allegedly Abusing Husband

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Evangelist Billy Graham's daughter was arrested and charged with domestic abuse after witnesses told police she choked her husband in a parking lot, authorities said. Virginia Graham Foreman, 59, spent a night in jail after the July 1 confrontation outside a shopping center, police said. She was charged with misdemeanor domestic abuse and released the following day.

Three witnesses told police that Foreman pushed her husband and grabbed him by the throat, authorities said.

A Volusia County judge who presided over Foreman's first court appearance said Chad Foreman told police that witnesses had "just misunderstood what was going on between them."

No one answered the phone at the couple's home on Friday.

Billy Graham, 86, concluded a three-day revival meeting in New York City last month that he indicated could be his last.

I was basing my earlier post on the limited amount of information available.

I still say that she and he too need to see a physician and explain about things not going very well.

As we get older some things just refuse to work as they did in our younger days.

My guess is that the violence is not a new phenomonon to this couple. I would bet that this woman always felt that divorce is out of the question, that she made her bed and she should just lie in it. That was my mother's attitude. Nothing that we said could convince her to leave her abusive husband. She just kept reiterating, "Those who God has joined together, let no man put asunder." It was very frustrating.

Well it could be that she is the abusive one in this case.

Doing marriage counseling several years ago for a church organization I found in many cases that a persons stature has nothing to do with the amount of psychological abuse and bullying that can be heaped on a person.

Physically small people learn to cope with size difference by using psychology to their advantage.

Somehow in America we are predisposed to conclude that it must be the mans fault whenever their is violence in a marriage.

Many people keep their problems bottled up inside the confines of the home and the world never knows that the marriage has dangerous problems.

Then, something happens and everyone is shocked.

As I mentioned in an earlier post there could be physical problems such as an over active thyroid as the cause of their problems.

Her statement that no one who knows her husband personally would ever put their hands around his neck, indicates fear of reprisal, as well as an on-going situation.

Could be but as I said there is not enough personal information to make or draw a real conclusions as to their personal problems.

The husband should have diffused the situation by telling the officers that they were just playing sex games.

I think she has good strong features and is a handsome woman. I've yet to see a mug shot makes anyone look even like their normal selves. Certainly there's a somewhat weathered appearance to her skin, perhaps from too much Florida sun.

This is another good example where the state is over reaching.

Yes, it's better to allow the abuser to continue his or her assault on the victim, even when it's a well-established fact that victims are somehow convinced they deserve the abuse and not the help to protect themselves.

This is not making any sense. We live in South Florida and there is not a mention of this anywhere. Here is a link to a speaking engagement in May http://www.gatheringcolumbus.com/

I don't believe she divorced and remarried that quickly. The divore would have been in the news. The link above says she is married to her husband Stephan or as we know him Dr. T. I have done a search and I am not coming up with any thing else on this.

Here's the story from the Daytona paper, online edition:

Evangelist's daughter charged in attack

By MELANIE STAWICKI AZAM

Last update: July 09, 2005

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Prosecutors are deciding whether the daughter of internationally known Christian evangelist Billy Graham should be charged with domestic abuse after witnesses told police she grabbed her husband by the neck outside their car along busy State Road 44.
Franklin Graham, brother of Virginia Graham Foreman of DeLeon Springs, said his sister has her family's "full love, support and prayers.

"As her brother, I find this report certainly out of character for my sister and trust that this situation will be quickly and satisfactorily resolved," said Franklin Graham, president of The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in Charlotte, N.C. "Unfortunately, at this time, we do not have details, which would enable us to comment further."

According to a police report, witnesses saw Graham Foreman, 59, of DeLeon Springs grab her husband, Chad Robert Foreman, 52, by the neck during an argument at 8:45 p.m. July 1 near the Kmart plaza on S.R. 44. Foreman then walked away from his wife and hid behind a furniture truck in the Kmart parking lot as his wife got in the car and searched for him, witnesses told police.

Police reported that when they asked Foreman about his wife grabbing his neck, he said she was upset and did not mean any harm. However, since four witnesses reported the physical dispute to police, they arrested Graham Foreman and took her to Volusia County Branch Jail.

Graham Foreman appeared before Volusia County Judge Mary Jane Henderson on July 2, according to court records. The judge said Graham Foreman's husband told her he didn't want his wife prosecuted or arrested. Henderson said she released Graham Foreman on her own recognizance.

Henderson said it is up to the State Attorney's Office whether to prosecute. Sometimes a case proceeds against the wishes of the victim, she said, such as when there are witnesses to the incident.

Graham Foreman is self-employed as a public speaker and author of inspirational books. A man who answered the phone number listed for Graham Foreman declined comment Friday before hanging up.

David Hill, 34, of Edgewater said he and his wife were heading home after eating at Denny's restaurant on S.R 44 when they saw a couple arguing on the median where West Canal Street and S.R. 44 meet.

"The car was parked in the middle of the road in front of the stop sign," Hill said. "(It) sat there for a good five to 10 minutes before he finally walked away and she got in the car."

Hill said he called police when he saw the ruckus.

"She had her hands around his throat," he said.

Graham Foreman's arraignment for the misdemeanor is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 8 in Judge Henderson's court in the Courthouse Annex, New Smyrna Beach.

I believe that the husband was capable of taking care of himself.

If he said there was not a problem the officer should have put away the handcuffs and gone on to something more important.

I don't understand the hellbent insistence on some people to want the police involved every time a husband and wife have a spat.

Well of course, the leftists leaning wingnut penis complex Feminazis are out to emasculate and dis engender all males except those marching in the local Gay pride parade.

Could it be that someone in Floriduh law enforcement was trying to shame someone perceived as a known supporter of the Christian cause?

Wouldn't be the first time local law has played GOTCHA with a well known personality.

I more likely have thought about just shooting him. But not lately.

Lucky Mr. cajungirl. LOL!

But, messing with his grits after he's fixed them up just to his liking, now that's just downright mean. :-)
