Stepping down for 5 minutes is the same as stepping down for good. It is an admission of guilt. In fact, it's even worse than stepping down for good, because it simply gives voice to the opposition's false charges.

"Tancredo was a successful, self-made state senator and Congressman long before he even heard of Pat Buchanan. "

He was an unknown Congressman nearing the end of his voluntarily imposed term limit pledge when Buchanan got ahold of him and made him a champion of the anti-immigrants and he decided to break his term limit pledge.

Let us all rally behind President Cheney after George W. Bush signed that infamous letter to the Speaker of the House stating he would temporarily step aside from the Presidency for not five minutes, but for EIGHT HOURS back in 2002.

Bush's fatal error was obviously an admission of guilt to the trumped up charges from the Democrats about Enron.

I can't believe Denny Hastert back-stabbed President Bush by encouraging this transfer of power. Whether it's 5 minutes, 8 hours, or 3 years, Bush looked weak in the eyes of the world by handing over his authority.

(Oh and Dane says it's ridiculous to compare an actually "TEMPORARILY STEP ASIDE" situation to Delay's theoretical "TEMPORARYILY STEP ASIDE" situation. Dane finds it much more accurate to compare a "TEMPORARILY STEP ASIDE" situation to a fictional resignation.)

Dear Mr. Speaker:

As my staff has previously communicated to you, I will undergo this morning a routine medical procedure requiring sedation. In view of present circumstances, I have determined to transfer temporarily my Constitutional powers and duties to the Vice President during the brief period of the procedure and recovery.

Accordingly, in accordance with the provisions of Section 3 of the Twenty-Fifth Amendment to the United States Constitution, this letter shall constitute my written declaration that I am unable to discharge the Constitutional powers and duties of the office of President of the United States. Pursuant to Section 3, the Vice President shall discharge those powers and duties as Acting President until I transmit to you a written declaration that I am able to resume the discharge of those powers and duties.

Sincerely,

GEORGE W. BUSH
President of the United States

I went to sit in on a meeting that Rep.Tancredo spoke at Friday evening and I have to say that what he's saying about our ILLEGAL immagration problems in this country ought to be listened to.
