Portman thinks pull-over a case of profiling
Boston Herald ^ | July 8, 2005

``Star Wars'' star Natalie Portman is convinced her shaved head makes her look like a terrorist.

The itty-bitty actress, 24, who lopped off her lush locks for the upcoming ``V for Vendetta,'' told Newsweek she suspects her chrome dome was the reason New York's finest pulled her over by the Midtown Tunnel the other day.

``I've never had that happen to me before,'' the Harvard grad confessed to the weekly news magazine. ``It's supposedly random . . . My registration was expired because I had been out of town, and it was my first day back. I'd been in Israel and Berlin for the shooting (of the movie).''

``(The police) wouldn't let me go in. But he said to take the bridge instead. And I didn't understand that logic. If you're a suspect, don't take the tunnel, take the bridge?''

``V for Vendetta'' is a futuristic tale about a freedom fighter who battles a facist state. Portman plays a girl he saves from the secret police.

She actually is a very intelligent Jewish girl that I admire very much. She is also more conservative than you might know, and I like her.

Good excuse, NOT! Oops, I forgot, because she is more important than the regular joe-schmo, the law doesn't apply to her...

"...My registration was expired because I had been out of town."

That's why you were pulled over. It has nothing to do with your shaved head or that super-sized ego of yours. Twit.

Sound like a publicity attempt..."freedom fighter against facist state?"

The parallels for the left to Bush today would have them flocking to the movie in droves.

So smart she forgot to renew her registration and cannot for the life of her figure out that this is the reason she was being given a problem.

Another flop-in-the-works that will leave Hollywad execs wondering, "Gee, why don't Red State Americans go see our movies?"

D'uh...

I agree, Except for I'm smitten :) I would wish she'd eat meat and even I have to admit she's a leans left more than I prefer.

Calm Down. 'V For Vendetta' is an Alan Moore comic book from the mid 1980s. It's more 1984 then anything else.

She may (or may not) be an obnoxious liberal. But it isn't clear that she is by this article, as far as I'm concerned.

I see her assuming that she was stopped because she looked weird. But I don't see her complaining about it. What I think she is complaining about is the fact that the police let her go, but told her to take the bridge instead of the tunnel. I see her point. If she is a potential terrorist or a dangerous person, then she should be held for interrogation. If not, then is there a logic to permitting her to drive over a bridge but not in a tunnel?

There may be logic to the decision of the police to let her drive over the bridge but not through, but I can't tell what it was. Can you?
