Pray pray pray

for a judge who honors the Constitution. Gonzales stated in 2003 that the Constitution 'means what the Court says it means' or something to that effect.

No way Bush will nominate Gonzalez. He is just defending his friend, as any of us would.

I believe that's the exact words....but you need it to be put in context with the rest of the lecture (speech) or whatever.

If a Rehnquist vacancy now is thrown into the mix, Novak asked, would Bush be tempted to temporize by naming one conservative and one non-conservative?

Following in his dad's footsteps.

Let's hope he doesn't.

It riles me that Gonzalez is/was a member of a "Mexican American" organization in Houston that is affiliated with the National Council of La Raza. That is an extreme organization (albeit not as extreme as Aztlan), that DOES NOT reflect the values of the President I thought I voted for. It sure as hell doesn't reflect MY values (not that any of the Hispanic groups do).
And to those who say, "Try being a Hispanic politician without belong to those groups," that is pure BS.
I unfortunately wasn't paying attention during his confirmation hearings, but I want to know if he ever answered for these leftist "Chicano" affiliations.

I know of a certain female United States senator from New York who would be jubilant if President Bush selected Gonzales.

90% of the FR base may disagree, but the real battle for conservatives is SCOTUS, not Iraq. Just as W has rewarded some of his supporters for continuing this war, and other supporters with pro-Wall street economics, he better appoint a real conservative to the Court for the other part of his base. Some of us won't vote for Bob Dole and their philosophical twins.

I fear he has wasted precious political capital on his Wilsonian fantasy of trying to make Iraq safe for democracy and meanwhile his own countrymen subject to an oligarchy of 9 "judges". the Supreme Court is the #1 priority for conservatives, and it has been for years. Now rather than fight for a real conservative, it may be time to make nice with liberals.

No one knows yet who the President might select. Whoever it has an uphill battle. Although Harry Reid said he could live with Gonzales, That doesnt say much for Gonzales.

Did a little web searching. It looks like those words are credited to Breyer.

Why does Newmax spend so much time publishing "stories" about other people's stories and columns? Why not just publish Novak's column, rather than write an "article" about the column? It seems like every Newsmax story I see is just a rehash of a real news story or column from somewhere else.

Yeah, I know, it's only a rumor. But if Bush does it, the GOP WILL loose the House and Senate in 2006, not by Dem votes but the lack of REP votes. Remember DAD's "Watch my lips" and the subsequent disaster when he signed a tax increase? IT'S GENETIC!

Needless fears abound, it seems. Perhaps people like to be frightened needlessly.

I think that the President does want to nominate Gonzales to the court....eventually. I see him nominating true conservatives to replace O'Connor and Renquist. If a 3rd spot opens up after the 2006 election (when President Bush is a lame duck)it's quite possible that Gonzales would be the best confirmable judge to replace Ginsburg or Stevens.

Statement: "Novak: Bush's Gonzales Support Frightening"

Response: Bush is a politician first. Being a politician means that if Gonzalez' selection would gather a slight but sufficient number of Mexican votes in certain key areas then Gonzalez would be selected. WE are the ones that are too divided. Sex, plenty of food, drink, drugs, sports and other diversions mean too much to Demos!

Why don't these politicians try nominating someone that will do America good, instead of their private agendas? I am sick of hearing these politicians putting someone in because they are black, hispanic, or whatever. Why don't they just darn put someone in that will help America?

I've said it before and I'll say it again...........

It was difficult enough to get Gonzales confirmed for the AG, so why, oh WHY, would the president, who knows that every candidate he's going to send up for a place on SCOTUS and he he knows that he'll have at least 2,more or less immediately, would he pick Gonzales, whom he'd have to find a replacement for? How many damned Dem COMMIE SHOW TRIALS, do you think that the president wants on his plate right now? Bolton is still hanging out there, London was bombed today, we're still fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, with lots of idiots screaming about how we should get out of both places....NOW, and then there's the privatization of Social Security and making the tax cuts permanent.

Pray pray pray for a judge who honors the Constitution.

Any justice who doesn't--in the manner of a strict constructionist--is no justice and is dispensing no justice. Such a person is nothing more than an enemy of the state warring upon the people.
