I've read a lot that suggests that Iran is responsible for a good portion of the insurgency, especially the so-called 'Al-Sadr uprising'. I hope they are not pulling a communist ploy wherby they bribe, threaten and cojole a country from within...

That is correct!

Rumsfeld has made that statement many times. This govt of Iraq is sovereign and it has the ability to choose - even if we don't necessarily believe it will be in their best interests.

I only wish Iraq had made the deal conditional on Iran being required to remove all their terrorists.
