I think it would be a very bad idea for Mr Blair to try to pretend that this is not due to being the only major supporter of US action in Iraq. He's already regarded by a majority of the population as dishonest according to those polls, so he's much better advised to be realistic about it.
We all know that's why we were hit. We've been bombed before and we aren't easily intimidated. All this did today was confirm the opinions on both sides of the Iraq issue and get everybody, on whatever side of the political spectrum, coldly angry and quietly determined not to be intimidated.
People have blown us up before and we weren't intimidated.
I will be getting on a train tomorrow, just as we all did during the decades of IRA bombing campaigns.
We visited Coventry Cathedral several years ago, it was preserved as it had been bombed by the Germans in WWII with a brand new cathedral juxtaposed next to it. Do you know if it's still that way? It was quite moving to see.
You were bombed because you are strong and free, and represent everything the terrorists hate. Terrorism preceded Iraq and it will continue after Iraq is under control. It's not the cause of this murderous attack.

I believe one of the reasons given for the 9-11 attacks was support of Israel. Madrid and London they state the cause is Iraq.
The Truth is that they desire what Hitler desired. To advance their power and their ideology by using terror as a means to intimidate or remove those in their way. Hitler used a nation state as a base. These terrorists have no nation state, but they thrive in countries ruled by Theocrats and dictators. Such as Saddam Hussein.
Bottomline: Iraq is no justification for mass murder of innocent civilians. That is the purest form of evil that will draw from any flimsy pretext an excuse to do what it desires. Which is to kill us.
They didn't blow up people because a dictator was removed. They didn't cause massive destruction because people oppressed are now able to vote in free elections. They murder because they hate Freedom and they hate Free people.
