Proposition 73 would require notifying parents when a minor seeks an abortion,
Proposition 74 would extend the probation period for new teachers from two to five years.
Proposition 75 would require public employee unions to get annual written permission from members to use dues for campaign contributions.
Proposition 76 would limit state spending, alter minimum school funding requirements, require the governor to cut appropriations in certain circumstances and impose prior year appropriations when there's a budget deadlock in the Legislature.
Proposition 77 is an attempt to take the power to draw legislative and congressional districts away from the Legislature and give it to a panel of three retired judges. (May be disqualified from the ballot)
Proposition 78 is a measure promoted by drug manufacturers to provide voluntary prescription drug discounts.
Proposition 79 would require prescription drug discounts for low-income residents.
Proposition 80 would require electricity providers to be regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission (Back the way we were).

I sure hope Californians can get Prop. 75 passed. We tried a similar measure in Oregon a few years back, but the unions and their media allies defeated it, and then personally and financially destroyed the man who got it on the ballot.
I'd bet if I put it on my car some union clown in Santa Cruz would be dumb enough to vote for it!
The anti-union forces tried to pass the same thing against unions (Prop 226) in the late '90's, and it was crushed. This is just another cynical attempt to weaken unions further, and leave the entire political contribution playing field to corporate interests. Unions would be thrilled to refrain from spending this kind of political money if businesses and other anti-union elements did the same. They outspend unions 10 to 1 or more. Why should the interests of working people be silenced? That is the aim of the proponents of this proposition.
Unions won't "rule" if Prop 75 passes, but that's exactly the point. Why should workers' voices be silenced, when they are already totally overwhelmed by the interests of groups like the national association of manufacturers, everyone and their mothers' chambers of commerce, Farm Bureaus, polluters, government management. Only unions should not be able to participate in the political dialogue? If no one can spend political money, that's one thing. Selectively silencing unions while the corporate cacophony reigns, that's unjust.
Government employee unions are crushing this state, financially, legally, and economically. IMHO, with the protections Civil Service provides, government unions should be illegal. Further, unions should not be exempt from anti-trust law. Protection from competiton is one of the worst things ever done to the American craft worker. It allowed the union to assert that all workers of a particular grade possessed identical skills, rather than make the most of each employee's particular talents and drive.
Why should workers' voices be silenced, when they are already totally overwhelmed by the interests of groups like the national association of manufacturers, everyone and their mothers' chambers of commerce, Farm Bureaus, polluters, government management.
Nobody is silencing anybody with Prop 75. Workers voices are being silenced when their money is being taken by union management without their consent. Not only that, but the continued practice of taking political funds without consent is already illegal under Federal law.
Nice try.
Why do government employees need unions, anyhow?
