We need some originality. Most movies are comic books or remakes. I want something different. Something like the Matrix or Forrest Gump. Hollywood is evidently out of ideas.
There have been so many recent movies, that could have been great, but failed. I loved the special effects in Day After Tomorrow. It even had a decent story. However, the political causes were so thrown in at the last moment, it ruined the movie. War of the Worlds was great until it go to the the Tim Robbins part. What was the point of spending 15 movie minutes in his basement? Did he teach Tom and Dakota how to defeat the Aliens? Not really. And the ending was so worn out and unbelievable. (spoiler) I mean up to the ending, the whole world is getting leveled by the aliens. People getting vaporized. But Tom walks up to the townhouse of his ex wifes family. Not a single building is damaged. The whole family walks to the door alive, and looking washed, and clean shaven. Come on. This one family stayed in their home while the world was ending around them? And got nary a scratch on them? And Tom never really stepped up and played a true hero role. Didn't even share what he learned about how to kill the aliens with the military folks.
Batman begins was great for the first 2/3rds of the movie. When the real actions scenes started I almost went to sleep. The scheme to destroy Gotham was far to complicated.
Cinderella Man was really good. I was sad that it didn't do better at the box office. I love Russell Crowe's acting ability. He is one of the top 5 actors on the planet. So just shut up, stop acting like a child, and be a role model.
Herbie Fully Loaded. I actually liked this movie. Took the kids and was really surprised by the movie. Lindsay Lohan and Michael Keaton did a great job. A real surprise for me. It's a movie I could watch over and over again.
Star Wars - great movie. Best of this trilogy. But Anakin's turn to the dark side was just not belivable for me. And they rushed the transition.
Crash - maybe the best movie I have seen this year. I was afraid it was going to be a liberal expose' on race relations. But it was a grab you by the seat of the pants movie. In the end, I truly cared about all the people in the movie. Don Cheadle is fast becoming a favortie actor of mine. Being told out of sequence, it kept you off balance. The ending was very surprising. Can't wait for the DVD.
Mr/Mrs Smith - great chemistry between Angelina and Brad. Pretty good movie right up until the end.
House of wax - maybe the worst movie of the year. Scripts flaws were so unbelievable and flat out inconsistent at times. Wasn't worth it to even see Paris prancing around for an hour or so.
Longest Yard - better than I expected, but not great.
Danny the Dog - got a lot of critical acclaim. But I thought it was horrible. And I love Jet Li.
The Interpreter - again pretty good up until the end.
Kingdom of Heaven - maybe 2nd worst movie of the year.
Sahara - pretty good action movie. I would watch it again.
Kicking and Screaming - Typical Wil movie. Just a different setting.
Amityville Horror - OK, but not great.
