A Staten Island coach and community figure has been arrested on charges of spanking teenage boys if they missed their basketball shots, officials said.
Drew Sanders, 49, of 50 Turf Rd. in the Heartland Village section, was charged with second-degree attempted assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, 23 counts of forcible touching, 23 counts of third-degree sexual abuse and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities allege that on Monday, Sanders, who is an assistant executive director of the Staten Island Jewish Community Center, pulled down a 15-year-old boy's pants and slapped the boy in the behind with a wooden paddle.

We were 24-1 that year and his discipline and fundamentals he taught were life long lessons. He was probably the best coach I have ever had and I played division 1 college sports.
I am not condoning what this guy did.
It worked at home on kids too. A swat when needed on the butt that is, no paddle.
I wonder what this teams field goal percentage was. Even though I don't agree with hitting the kids for missing shots, I bet it was pretty darn good.
Methinks the coach is a homo....
Suspended...with pay I assume.
A former, unnamed coach of a major university was fired three decades ago because he slapped a punter to muffed a punt. The punter was a typical whiney kid whose dad made a big deal of it.
The day after the announcement was made, thousands of people started wearing COACH NEVER SLAPPED ME! t-shirts.
WTF? discipline for misbehaving is one thing. Discipline for lack of talent is another. The team should have taken this guy out of the gene pool.
Don't know about that...but certainly kinky!
Does the coach like gladiator movies?
C'mon, what adult in their frickin' right mind pulls down a 15 year old's pants and paddles him? If any man tried to do that to my sons when they were 15 he would've fought them first then he would've fought me. I stopped spanking my boys when they were 7 or 8. If anything, it demotivates anyone 9 or older to spank them.
Oh, BTW, my oldest son plays linebacker and is an outfielder on his college football and baseball teams, and my 18 year old is playing semi-pro ball for the summer before going to a DI school as a second baseman (he was also the scholar-athlete of the year in a 3 county area with a population of nearly 800,000 people).
The point is, I treated my sons like the men I foresaw them becoming, not like children. Only a loser would spank a 15 year old. Only a perv would pull down the pants of another man's son....
My High School coach used to paddle slackers with a tennis shoe. I don't think it had any adverse effect on me. In fact, Mistress Ingrid says I've been a very good boy lately.
When I was in junior high in the late 70's, teachers or principals at my school paddled kids for misbehaving all the time. The big difference between that and what this coach did is that none of my teachers ever pulled the kid's pants down.

Picture of the coach.
You look like the kind of "man" who would enjoy this thread.

Did that refer to me, or Liberace?
That previous sentence just didn't sound right...at all. LOL.
Liberace of course.
;-)
I am also shocked. Why on earth does this merit discipline?
When I was in junior high school, we had a coach who would make you drop trow and give you a wack if you disobeyed orders. So what?
