Damn. Dunno if Bill Elliot's tornado-at-the-track advice would've worked with that kind of damage.

Dennis is up to a category 4 and about to nail Cuba (not going to hit Havana dead-on, though). The current (5 am) track is set to take it into Pensacola, then all the way to southeast Missouri before making the right hook as a tropical depression (unfortunately, the hook is going to be too much to make it all the way up to my parched environs).

Bad thing is, this Dennis is tracking into Alabama and I have family on the coast.
Off to work, see ya later.

You should have seen some of the footage that our local news coverage had of the track on last night's news. The weather service said that the shape of the facility caused the tornado to increase in strength after it formed. Winds over 100 mph.

It looks like there may be a lot of hurricanes this year. I think the state of Texas could use a little rain but not that much all at once. I hope everyone along the Gulf coast is prepared.
Talladega received some damage last year from a tornado as well.

Billy Venturini ready to get rolling at Kentucky Speedway
The Associated Press
Nearly 41/2 months after breaking his neck in a crash during the ARCA season opener at Daytona International Speedway, Billy Venturini is ready to race again.
The third-generation race car driver is entered in Friday's ARCA stock car race at Kentucky Speedway.
"Nobody really knew what to expect after Daytona," Venturini said. "I just knew I wasn't gong to give up and I was going to do everything in my power to prepare myself for this moment. I never once lost sight of driving a race car again. This is what I love to do."
The medical team of neurosurgeon Jerry Petty and spinal injury specialist Dom Coric of the Neurological and Spinal Injury Clinic in Charlotte, N.C., examined Venturini earlier this month and gave him medical clearance to drive again.
Venturini tested last week at both Toledo and Kentucky Speedways.
"It felt great to be back in the car again," he said. "I feel very strong and have no doubt about competing at the same level as I did before my accident."
Jason Jarrett, son of NASCAR Nextel Cup star Dale Jarrett, has substituted for Venturini and is expected to remain in the No. 25 car for the rest of the 2005 season while Venturini drives a limited schedule in a second Venturini Motorsports entry.

Looks like Smoke is going to a backup car, some kind of incident during practice. Wrecked!

Stewart taken to hospital for precautionary X-rays
JOLIET, Ill. (AP) - Tony Stewart was taken to a local hospital for precautionary X-rays Friday after bouncing off the wall during practice for the USG Sheetrock 400 at Chicagoland Speedway.
NASCARTV on SPEED: Chicagoland
Fri., July 8: Cup qualifying, 4 p.m. ET
Sat., July 9: Cup Happy Hour, Noon ET
Stewart, the winner of the last two NASCAR Nextel Cup events and the defending race champion, was complaining of pain in one of his shoulders after hitting the wall with the right side of his No. 20 Chevrolet and sliding into the infield grass.
He was helped from the car by speedway safety personnel and walked to the waiting ambulance for the mandatory ride to the infield care center. The Joe Gibbs Racing team was rolling his backup Chevrolet to the gas pumps when Stewart was taken to the hospital.
A year ago, Stewart also crashed in Friday's practice. He was not injured and wound up qualifying his backup car 10th. Qualifying for Sunday's race

Ouch. I knew there was a reason why the Shredded Wheels didn't take him this week.
I'm pissed that NA$CAR didn't announce when the pre-qualifying practice would be. They only showed the Busch boys (and girl) practcing today.
In other news (hat tip Jayski)...
- ppc immediately looking for new sponsors, including primary, for Kenny Wallace's Busch ride. No word on what is happening to Stacker2, which has a long relationship with Kenny.
- Speaking of Kenny, he'll be driving the 92 Front Row Motorsports Chevy instead of the 00 Michael Waltrip Racing one in the Cup race. He'll be carrying over the sponsor (State Fair Corn Dogs) and the motor (DEI instead of Pro-Motors). With no rain in the forecast, the fact that the 92 would have made it on attempts while the 00 wouldn't doesn't matter.
- Rront Row Joe and GI Joe (Nemechek and US Army) re-up with MB2. The Army's now signed through 2006, and Nemechek has a multyear extension.

Does Front Row Motorsports =Joe?
Stacker 2 would make a big mistake not continuing with Kenny.
Someone is practicing the #20 car which wound up 16th in practice.

No; that's the name of the #92 team (run mostly by Stanton Barrett).
