Questions, rumors and fears spread through a Kirkwood neighborhood today after a police sergeant was shot and killed by a gunman.

Authorities continued their search today for a suspect identified by police as Kevin Johnson, also known as Kevin Tatum, 19, whose last known address was in the 400 block of Saratoga Street in Kirkwood. A white Ford Explorer that police believe was used by Johnson Tuesday night was found today in Ferguson. Other sightings of Johnson throughout St. Louis County were also reported.

This guy's going down. And I hope when he's caught he gets executed the same way.

Hello,

Sad story, this happened just a few miles from me. The officer left 3 children and a wife. The city of Kirkwood has never in it's history had a police office killed in the line of duty.

Glad to be here, MOgirl

Kirkwood, or at least a good part of it, is a pretty nice part of the county. You expect something like this across the river or in the city..

The kids were young, too. 7, 10, 13.

I live in St Louis City, and I can tell you for sure that this doesn't happen in MY neighborhood!

But I know what you mean.

The old lines of what was safe and what isn't are just so blurred now.

Police said McEntee was responding to a fireworks disturbance about 7:30 p.m. when the shooting took place. He was sitting in his patrol car, talking with the boy who was later injured, when his assailant began shooting. McEntee's patrol car, apparently still in gear, sped down the street, where it hit a parked car and a tree before coming to a stop.

Plummer said a man identified as Johnson approached McEntee, made some "bizarre statements" and shot him several times.

"He was responding to a call that had absolutely nothing to do with the shooting," he said. "Our man was ambushed."

This is such a shame. I used to live in the adjoining town, Des Peres, and hope the police find this scumbag soon.

Hopefully when the cops find this little cockroach they rehabilitate him on the spot.

The City's progress, especially down near Compton and Grand, is remarkable. Step a block or two over, though...

Hello,

Oh, Lord, I did not know the ages of the children. The news is saying that this was because the shooter was upset about his younger brother dying earlier yesterday, and that the shooter lured the police to the scene. Any additional info that you have heard?

I predict that on the evening news, one of Kevin "Rockhead" Johnson's relatives will say something about the police harassing him and his family.

Apparently there was some incident over the weekend where the police were called for a fireworks disturbance (illegal in Kirkwood), and Rockhead was supposedly mad about that three days later.

Oh, great! Not caught yet. One of my girls heard the reports last evening when this was occuring and called to tell me to stay indoors. I am so sorry the officer died. He had 3 children. I hope this Tatum puts up a fight in which he is the only one hurt.

According to KMOX (~4:45 p.m.) A younger brother of the suspect with some sort of heart problem collapsed and died after being questioned by police earlier in the day about fireworks. Again, according to KMOX, the suspect set up the "ambush", presumably in retaliation, by phoning in a false report about illegal fireworks to lure police into the neighborhood, then proceeded to shoot the policeman that responded.

If all of that is true, find, try and execute Kevin. Then, take the immediate family left and execute all of them. It is time to give up some freedoms for some control. I can't take this anymore.

Doesnt get any more pre-meditated than that..

That was the tone of the news report.

p.s., I double checked the locks on my doors after I heard the news late last night. Very chilling to hear such news in your neighborhood (I'm within ~2.5 miles of the shooting).
