It sounded like Cooper just said on TV that the government waivers did not mean anything and he would not give up a source based on those original waivers (saying they are coerced). He then went on to say that it was only when his source contacted him today and gave a "personal" waiver that he agreed to testify. What is not perfectly clear is if the source that gave the waiver today also signed one of those government waivers earlier (i.e. Rove or anyone else who signed one). Hmmmm, very confusing.

I don't think Rove or anyone else could have anticipated this; the whole liberal charge - that someone in the Bush admin thought "we're gonna 'get' Wilson by "outing" his wife" - was goofy to begin with, and the source probably had no idea that this story would be floated and pumped for all it was worth, right up to a grand jury investigation.

I thought from listening to Cooper that he felt he was released by his source in terms of speaking to the Grand Jury and the grand jury only.

It's entirely possible the source released him from all confidentiality to all interested parties (including the press), but it would serve Coopers purposes to keep the suspense out there that it was Rove (for those who don't understand that Rove has already released everyone from confidentiality).
