COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -- President Bush, facing a skeptical Europe, strongly defended on Wednesday decisions on Iraq, climate change, imprisoning terrorism suspects and aid to Africa that have made him unpopular here. "I understand that people aren't going to agree with decisions I make," Bush said at a news conference with Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen. "I truly believe we're laying the foundation for peace."

I am sorry, but I live in Germany and the entire meme that "the Europeans didn't agree with Bush on Iraq" is false. A little more than half of Europe's population did not want their own militaries to overthrow Saddam. But a little more than half were fine with the US Marines doing the dirty work. I think FReepers need to stop giving this meme to the leftists. The journalists are running with the ball that we seem to have given them without taking them down. Don't let them get to the end zone with this garbage. CONSERVATISM WILL WIN EUROPE BACK and this will start when the conservatives take power in Germany later this year. Our strategy in the war on terror is to turn the Muslim tide in Europe into our conservative allies.
I have seen too many FReepers also giving the Vietnam meme to the leftists. The Free World WON the Vietnam War when Nixon made peace with China in 1972. We bought them off with a Security Council seat and a few factory contracts. That strategically ended the Vietnam War. Why did we give liberal historians and journalists the football that they've been running all over the field with for the past 30 years that the USA "lost" the Vietnam War? Don't you know that we were attacked on 9-11 because this meme had gotten too strong?

Who in Europe is still skeptical? Who besides American traitors have been complaining recently about Iraq? Nobody in Europe talks about Iraq anymore. I live here! That line is a lie on the part of the journalist! It is the journalist who is "skeptical." The journalist is an American traitor who thinks the Europeans are still "anti-Bush" because he wants to project his own feelings on the Europeans. Can't you see the dishonesty in the phrase itself?? Too many FReepers read this brazenly untrue "opinion" in the first line of a leftist newspaper article...and they just accept this at face value.
Let me make something clear: the conventional wisdom in Europe, as shown by almost zero coverage of Iraq, is that the Iraq War lasted 6 weeks and, since then, all the riff raff at the train stations have become less Arab and are back to just being a few local winos. Perceptive Europeans have a good sense where a lot of the dangerous-looking Muslims that used to hang out in city centers have disappeared to...and they know that the US Marines and Army are taking care of them. This is not Vietnam again. Europeans feel specifically threatened by Islamists where they did not feel threatened by the North Vietnamese. Europeans aren't as stupid as the leftists in the USA who basically DO conflate Islamists with North Vietnamese.
Why do you lie about the attitudes of the europeans regarding the USA & Iraq/ George Bush and the Republican Party.
Every survey shows that the War is NOT supported, that GWB / Republicans are "evil" etc...
There are CONSTANT reports in the media about the situtation in Iraq (at least the negative stuff).
I, as an american living in Europe since 1988, have been confronted with these attitudes constantly, especially since GWB first took office! The media has been AGAINST him since BEFORE he took office!
I grant that some, mostly conservative, Europeans support the war and GWB in general, but to whitewash the last 4 years based on the opinions of a few is quite galling.
Wow...great comments (all of them). If true, I guess you can count me as one of those who can get disheartened occasionally by the perception that Europe is still hung up on the invasion of Iraq three years ago. It's good to hear the possibility that another reality actually exists "on the ground".
