Man discovers his royal roots
Pioneer Press ^ | 7-5-05 | MEGGEN LINDSAY

Posted on 07/05/2005 7:19:55 AM PDT by Rakkasan1

Marty Johnson first met his mom and dad in a park in Nebraska.

He was 4.

He had no idea he was getting a family when the nuns brought him there from his home, a foster farm in Iowa. And so he began his life, always slightly the outsider, and always slightly curious about his past.

"I'd never seen anyone who looks like me," he said.

Nearly four decades later, Johnson, 41, recalls being similarly unprepared to meet his biological parents. He knows that's hardly an unusual sentiment for a child of adoption.

But how his story unfolds — what his wife calls a true "frog to prince" fairy tale — is.

I wonder if his wife would be happy about him getting to preside over any deflowering ceremonies while he chooses
one of his 15 wives?

I was pleased to see he remains loving and loyal to his REAL parents --- his adoptive parents, that is.

I understand the need to hunt down birth parents, but it often strikes me as a bit of a betrayal of trust.

Sounds like a guy I used to work with. He went to Africa and discovered he was a prince. Once he returned he started wearing African clothing to work. Every day a different outfit. I swear he had hundreds of them. He also changed his name and became a Muslim.

He'll receive his inheritance just as soon as he provides all his bank accounts and notarized power of attorney.

He went to Africa and discovered he was a prince.

Based on rock solid African genealogical records? Did he get a copy with an official raised seal from the Ministry of Genealogy in Nigeria?

If he finds out that one of his cousin princes urgently needs to use his bank account to smuggle millions of dollars embezzled from Live8 our of Nigeria, encourage him to go for it.

Does he realize how many can claim the same? I am a direct decendant of Alfred the Great, Henry the II, Charlemane, and others. Its a fun thing to find out, but I dont think it is such a big deal.

I don't want to minimize the emotional meaning of this for they guy. The connection to his biological father must be very important to him, whether he admits it or not. It's just that, if my husband is going to become a prince, I'd hope that it would be of more than a village.

I was adopted into an affluent Anglo-Saxon family in the Hamptons, given the best of higher education, UVA Law, practiced in a prestigious firm in Manhattan for 15 years, married a beautiful lady and lived like a king until I took a vacation in London to find my real parents, whom I discovered were shiftless vagabonds, incurable winos who lived in makeshift tents in any woods they could find.

I soon began to lose my taste for Merlots and Cabernets in exchange for MD-20/20 and Richard's Wild Irish Rose, began passing out drunk on park benches for the night, gleaning meals from garbage cans and bathing once every 3 months whether I needed it or not.

Kind of like your friends story in reverse.(wink)

And if you believe that one, I have some ocean front property in Tibet to sell you.(smile)

Just last week I could NOT remember the name of that movie.

The young kids in the breakroom at work were talking about movies, and I tried to tell them about that one. NONE of them had any idea what I was talking about, and I couldn't remember the name of it. NOW I know.

Thanks.

Big deal, I’m a first cousin (8 times removed) of Abraham Lincoln.
That and .69 will get me a cup of coffee at McDonalds.

I’m still waiting for my invitation to sleep in my cousin’s bedroom in the White House.
