Nullification Nancy (Pelosi's botox brain-freeze re Kelo-eminent domain decision)
SPECTATOR ^ | 7/5/2005 | Washington Prowler

Posted on 07/05/2005 2:31:56 AM PDT by Liz

SHINING BRIGHT

House Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi is known amongst even her Democratic colleagues as one of the less cerebral members of the House. But even her staff was stunned by her seeming inability to understand the recent Kelo Supreme Court ruling regarding governmental property seizures.

"We briefed her on it. She seemed to ask questions as though she understood it, but clearly she didn't," says a Boxer adviser on Capitol Hill. "How else to explain it?"

Indeed. When asked about Kelo and its implications, as well as moves afoot by some Republicans in both houses to negate the ruling, perhaps by barring use of federal funds on projects that involved the state or local taking of land, Pelosi responded thusly:

"It is a decision of the Supreme Court. If Congress wants to change it, it will require legislation of a level of a constitutional amendment. So this is almost as if God has spoken. It's an elementary discussion now. They have made the decision."

Later, she insisted: "Again, without focusing on the actual decision, just to say that when you withhold funds from enforcing a decision of the Supreme Court you are, in fact, nullifying a decision of the Supreme Court. This is in violation of the respect for separation of church -- powers in our Constitution, church and state as well. Sometimes the Republicans have a problem with that as well. But forgive my digression."

"All I can say is wow," says a Republican leadership staffer. "To say anything else would just undercut the impact her remarks have had up here."

Even after the press remarks, Pelosi, according to other Democratic staffers, didn't seem to understand what the fuss was all about. "She was oblivious. She really thought she had a handle on some basic ideas about the Supreme Court, the way Congress works with the rulings of the court," says a Democratic leadership staffer. "A generation of 'Schoolhouse Rock' get this and she doesn't? Her staff should be ashamed of itself for putting her out there."

Pelosi's 'church' is the all-powerful State. Frightening.

I think the voters of San Francisco are the ones who should be ashamed... But I may be asking too much of them.

There can only be room enough in that pretty little head for one thought at a time. I don't really hold Pelosi's mis-statement about the Separation of Church and State against her. When you are that stupid, the first word in the phrase triggers the rest of the statement without intervention from the brain. "Church and State" follows "Separation of..." as sure as "Butter" follows "Bread and..." or "Cheese" follows "Macaroni and...".

It is David Souter as the Voice of God thing that has me upset...

You know you're in trouble when Boxer's people are calling you stupid.

That sure ain't the way se viewed it when SCOTUS ruled against algorejr in 2000, is it? These recent 2 rulings could spell huge disaster for the lib/RATS/socialist/commie party. How many like Pelosi will go to their grave never getting it?

Boxer's staff calling her a birdbrain? Man, I read that phrase a dozen times to make sure it wasn't a typo.

Oh, I think Pelosi got it, but the statement clearly indicates she was in over her head, overstetching her meager thought processes to make a point.

Dastardly libs are so obsessed with tearing down the establishment, they will say and do anything, no matter how ridiculous, to achieve disestablishmentarianism.

Dayaaaam! Someone "up top" must be really mad at Nancy - they've got the media treating her like a Republican!

Normally only Republicans have to deal with the media calling them stupid...

The botox probably didn't help, but I doubt she was a shining star of intellectual thought before the alterations of nature began. But to say that she is the dumbest Democrat dishonors all the other Dem idiots currently infesting the legislature. There are a lot of them. And it's hard to tell who is the stupidest Dem. It's like looking into a pig sty and trying to determine which of the swine is the dirtiest.

This is great stuff. The combination of Pelosi, Reid and Dean serve the Democratic party so well! Keep talking Nancy, we're listening.
