Mountain Brook High School graduate Natalee Holloway went missing May 30 during a senior trip to Aruba.

It could be they are ALL covering their respective @sses.
How convenient of them to say that Natalee told them she'd be out all night.
to my recollection we haven't heard from the roomies to explain why they weren't worried when she didn't return that night, or in the morning..
Nobody really cared. They were probably hung over, chaperones included.
Our son won a trip to Europe after graduation in '96, with a group from all over the US.
He's not a drinker, so wasn't too thrilled that even the chaperones wanted to party hearty.
I don't think it's weird for and 18 year old to introduce herself to a 17 years old.
I'm much more careful about who I talk to now, then when I was younger (especially in high school and college, it wasn't even 'flirting' per se, it was just a hi, I'm so and so.)
I think though that it was mentioned Natalee's best friend's were not on the trip. On the Bill O'Reilly interview a couple of the kids said they hadn't seen Joran before, on a Greta show a couple of different kids said they had seen him. I just don't think there was anything sinister in her acknowledging someone she'd seen around for a few days, with a "Hi, I'm Nat" kinda deal.
Where did you get this from? Witnesses (MB students) said she told them she was going back to HI.
What bothers me is not the introduction, but the friends' account of it.
Yes, but that proves my point..it what you say is true..it means the girls weren't the innocent goody two shoes they're being depicted as. I'm not indicting, even criticizing them for it..but absent a body, you have to also profile the victim to understand what might have happened to them..
from the speculation in post 1970
Very thoughtful Ken. As good a scenario as any other speculation on this thread. Especially the possibility that Natalee was so upset by her predicament that she demanded Juran "Leave me alone!!!!!!!"
The evidence is not in.........or if it is......we don't have that information.
Beth's maternal instincts should not be discounted, but guilt of shameful behavior in a spoiled teenager might well be similar to the reaction of a psychopath...(not an expert, so I shall defer to others;)

I'm not profiling Natalee...I wouldn't even attempt it.
I don't believe her classmates. I won't call them friends.
Her closest friends weren't even on the trip.
It's not rotten..it's a small island..everyone knows everyone, and their business..incestuous almost..they try to protect each other..there's ony one paper.....here's a silly exasmple..yet it makes the point..It's almost impossible to rent a car on Aruba..there's only a very limted supply..the government strictly limits the number of rent-a-cars on the island..why don't they bring in more....supposedly it's for safety, so a bunch of drunk tourists don't kill everyone..the real rewason..one of the best jobs on the island is taxi driver..they have a huge lobby...no rent a cars means you need a cab to go anywheres..so..
Do we even know if the roommates were back in the room? I wouldn't read too much into that. I was in Europe last month helping my daughter, 20, pack and get ready to go back home after 5 months--well, and sightsee of course. She reminds me SO much of Natalee--long blonde hair, intelligent, uses good judgement, has sound morals. She stayed out extremely late while we stayed in her city--much later than she would ever do here. It's safer (they thought that in Aruba too) and she was with friends.
Plus, your scenario doesn't account for why these three young men have lied so repeatedly. While I think it's possible that Natalee could have been aware that the events of the past hour or so (however long) was not representative of her past behavior, I don't think it follows that she willingly participated in a fling. Had she been slipped a date rate drug and came to realize that she had been raped, yes, she might well have told him to go away and leave her alone. I would have at that age. And she could have wondered, confused, into the ocean. But why is everyone lying if that happened? Doesn't make sense.
What you say could have happened, but that doesn't mean that a crime still didn't take place.
Just wanted to report in and thank you again for the work here. I do read all the time! I wish there was some good news to read tho )o:
No, I don't think Natalee's crowd was into drugs. From all accounts I've read, they're a good clean-cut group of kids who merely partied with some alcohol.
Does it bother anyone else, that story about Natalee "introducing herself" to Joran?
What story? Cite the source please.
If all three of them were guilty of doing in Natalee, it would make more sense they stand united.
Joran can't really go back and try and involve them because he has already confirmed that the boys DROPPED him and Natalee off at the beach.
He thus needed a ride back home, and most likely told Deepak he would call him to pick them up. If Natalee was dead..he couldn't call Deepak..instead, he text-messaged him that he was back home..

It is a Southern thing. I am a 51 year old Grandma-to-be and I still "Yes M'am" and "Yes Sir".

Greta's show. Classmates interviewed.
You've probably read the thread since...
interesting responses.
Why did the boys lie?..easy..say there was sex..with one or more of them..they say consensual...liquor and drug induced..she says rape..they figure they're in big trouble.. so they lock into a story...the dad wants to protect his son...and he's an attorney..so he doesn't even want to ask his son what happened..

Natalie's mom, and I admire her grace untier pressure immensely..may have screwed this up by involving the US media a little to early....look.let's say the boys gave her liquor and drugs..all had sex with her..they say it waa consensual..maybe it was or wasn't..but they left hwer alive and screaming on the beach..they get offers of immunity for any crimes relating to drugs/rape IF they come in to take, and pass, a polygraph..
I read a lot of mysteries. I can't remember offhand which detective says it can be more informative if someone lies or refuses to answer than if they tell the truth. [It's a bad paraphrase. I think it's Nero Wolfe.]
Anyway, I think if a competent interviewer- someone who wants to find Natalee- makes the attempt, the Kalpoes could provide good leads even inadvertently. If there is remorse for the part they've played or a desire to clear their name, all the better.
