well-established Napoleonic Code the Dutch system is based upon

Is Dutch legal system similar to Louisiana...I think they have a different kind of legal system than rest of U.S. - based on Napoleonic Code, also, but perhaps not as fully as Aruba.

And, you are correct; the Dutch have been very helpful in the War on Terrorism. I had forgotten that myself until your reminder.

The points you say are important ones; however, there is no balance there, in my opinion.

The biggest complaint against what their system did is that they arrested the Security Guards on the mere word of the three who were last seen with Natalee, they let those three go and they did not have or borrow the forensic search capability that was crucial to finding the forensic truth in this case.

Add to that, they lacked the expertise and technical resources to seriously search for a body under the possibilities that she had been put into the ocean. After all this time, just about zero chance exists to find such a body, or if it were found, find crucial evidence on the body.

I've tried to keep up and don't remember that being explained but if so, can anyone point me to that or give a summary of what she might have meant? TIA!

We did notice that in the original interview. However no, it has not been explained.

The only thing that I can actually agree with you on is some of the media. Some do overstep their bounds and state and relay misinfo. It does not make them look good.

Thanks for once again injecting some objectivity to this case discussion. There is no real evidence of intentional corruption here and no dead body. As you say, in America the defense lawyers would be laughing this off as a slam dunk for the suspects to go free with little or no detention at all. And as far as investigative mistakes being made, do I hear Boulder CO police or LAPD please? This is not peculiar to Aruba that the case started off possibly slow and off-track and some wrong suspects were detained. If this case was so easy to solve, the FBI, American media, team from Texas, etc. would have more than just suspicion. Something is amiss here with the Sloots but feeling that is one thing, for the authorities to prove murder is another.

Fox news says Twitty's met with prosecutor for a couple of hours last night and they're not happy.

you can defend their system of justice, but what say you of the corruption?

My post has nothing to do with the issue of corruption, but rather the quote from TexKat's article about Arubans resenting the American media.

I don't have time to watch every minute of our 24-hour coverage, but I haven't noticed our media going after "corruption" in Aruba. What I have seen, as I noted, is our media ignorantly and ludicrously attacking the Aruban justice system.

But if we're going to talk about corruption, there's corruption everywhere in the Carribbean, but by most accounts, far less of it in Aruba than on the other islands.

And, if we're going to talk about corruption, how about our own city of Camden NJ, where every governmental office is controlled by the Mafia, in league with the Democratic party? Seems Camden's police can't even figure out to search the trunk of a father's car to find trapped children.

THAT is what has americans up in arms, much more so than the differing systems.

My post is blasting the American media, NOT Americans in general.

And let's not forget our media rush to put out many false "reports" in this case. (Not to mention their false reports during our election last year...remember ?)

Beth said they will buy a house in Aruba if that is what it takes to find her daughter. She is NOT going to leave without Natalee. If she is thinking that far ahead she is obviously determined to see this through. I don't think the Aruba government wants her to stay there, IMO. That can't make them very happy.

This was on Scarborough Country, and it has been kicked around by some.

There was a poster or two that INSISTED that she MUST have meant she saw Natalee back at the hotel, where everyone else agrees that Natalee never got back to. I have read the word by word transcript, over and over and over, and there is no way that such a meaning is obvious. It is not obvious.

In your case, at least you aren't trying to say that you KNOW the friend was saying that she saw her back at the hotel...you are just wondering about it.

The same girl was interviewed by Greta. She never said one word to Greta about that point. And she could have, she just did not. Also, Natalee's mother has said repeatedly that SHE KNOWS WITHOUT A SHRED OF DOUBT THAT NATALEE NEVER MADE IT BACK.

You know that if the girl truly saw Natalee back there, when nobody else did, she would be shouting it from the rooftops and every media outlet would be interviewing her about it 24/7.

I am certain that whatever she was saying, IT WAS NOT THAT. (And Joe Scarborough would be riding it to death as well, btw, if he had uncovered such a blockbuster. And that just has not happened.)

She may have thought that he was taken her home in a taxi.

Taxi license plates in Aruba start with the letters 'TX'. License plates of small buses begin with 'B'...info for travellers. Also, the rates are fixed by the gov't & there are no meters in the taxis.

Thanks, txrangerette...it just keeps going through my mind - wondering what she meant. Might have to do more with her than with Natalee! Who knows.

Beth: She hasn't seen her daughter for 31 days and she is not going to leave until she finds her.

I can't help wonder exactly what prompted Beth and Jug to call the FBI immediately upon learning that Natalee didn't get back to the hotel or board the plane. Any thoughts?

That was a very short news' conference.

Beth: My greatest fear is the Kalpoe brothers will leave Aruba.

Is Dutch legal system similar to Louisiana...I think they have a different kind of legal system than rest of U.S. - based on Napoleonic Code, also, but perhaps not as fully as Aruba.

I'd like to know the answer to that too. I'm not a lawyer, but maybe if we have any FReeper lawyers from Louisiana, one of you could comment on that.

The little I know about Louisiana law, I learned years ago when I had a property rights problem. At that time I learned that Louisiana's law is based on the Napoleonic Code (and not the English common law system the rest of our states follow).

So all I could tell you is that property rights, under Louisiana law, are not based on the English system. (For example, they have no such thing as the form of squatter's rights known in English common law as "adverse possession.")

I would guess, however, that Louisiana under federal Constitutional law would have to treat criminal defendants (giving them Miranda warnings, etc.) the same as every other state.

And, you are correct; the Dutch have been very helpful in the War on Terrorism. I had forgotten that myself until your reminder.

Yes, our so-called conservative commentators would do well to remember that. However much we slam Holland for its extremely liberal social policies, we shouldn't forget that they have bravely supported us in Iraq.

And I believe Holland has been trending in a more conservative direction, politically, after the assassinations of Pim Fortuyn and Theo van Gogh.

I like Beth! People outside the South have no idea how strong Southerners are. Rather, they are put off by that soft, delightful accent. I'm sure that the Arubans will rue the day that whoever the perp(s) turn out to be that they chose Natalee Holloway to be their victim.
