Leading Hollywood actresses are chasing the role of Marla Ruzicka, the young American aid worker who was killed in Baghdad in April by a suicide bomber, after Paramount secured the film rights to her life.

Marla Ruzicka said she would like Drew Barrymore to play her because they had similarly chaotic lives

The proposed story is creating a buzz in the US film industry. Paramount beat off bids from rival studios after the producer Marc Platt, whose previous credits include Philadelphia and Legally Blonde, impressed the Ruzicka family with his enthusiasm for the project.

I wonder if Marla would have pulled herself together had she lived.

"Marla Ruzicka said she would like Drew Barrymore to play her..." As Yogi Berra would say, she must have said that before she died.
Did Marla believe her story would end up on the silver screen?

A little bit of ego there, to assume there will be a movie made about your life.

That's something to be proud of. Drew Barrymore was a diagnosed alcoholic at the age of 8 and was using cocaine at the age of 12.

I find it weird that Marla was discussing who was going to play her in a movie before she died. I guess that's the life of a liberal golden child.

Producer Marc Platt...impressed the Ruzicka family with his enthusiasm for the project flashing a bunch of money and a promise to make her look like Mother Teresa.

I wonder what Hollywood's angle is to make the premise for war look as bad as possible. By the time the movie comes around, the war will be won. Oh well, Hollyweird is not above dumping on history.
