Actually it was the other way around. He didn't "need" Shasta (as his tastes run to little boys, in accordance to what I've read on him.) This is what makes this whole matter so mysterious. His objective would obviouisly have been young Dylan, so why Shasta didn't end up like her mother, oldeer brother and stepfather, and at the same time, are unfathomable at this point. Only he can divulge the whys, now, and he hasn't been talkative..

No kidding. I read about his first offense (at 16!!) and it was pretty darn violent.

I think it should have been obvious that rehabilitating this guy would be difficult, if not downright impossible. I vote for impossible, and this incident pretty much confirms that.

The DA didn't tell him? Yes, the old "nobody told me" excuse. Surely he is allowed to ask. I wonder how far that would go as a defense before this same judge. It seems that "ignorance" is an excuse if you are connected to law enforcement, a judge or a prosecutor but not for us "civilians."

It is the prosecutors responsibility to inform the judge. The Judge is not supposed to do the prosecutors job. The prosecutor only asked for $25,000 bail. $2,500 bucks would have freed this guy even in the best case scenario. Your anger should be directed at a prosecutor who did not make sure this creep was kept in jail. That is who should bear your scorn.

Molesters usually abuse their victims then realize they have to kill them lest they testify against them.

I would venture to say he kept Shasta to use as a bargaining chip.

His record is all of molesting males, correct.

However, many many molestation cases end up with the victim murdered. Men who prey on young girls...several cases in the news...kidnap, molest and murder them. Likewise, men who prey on young boys often murder them. John Wayne Gacy comes to mind, Jeffrey Dahmer, surely there are many others. Lots of young boys have disappeared, never to be found, or their remains found months or years later. Many cases are never solved, but the victims are presumed lost in the prostitution-porno realm, or dead.

One liklihood is if the boy resisted the pervert, that could have ended up in his death. Or it could be just from the mind of the sicko, that he planned to kill him no matter what.

Director Earns Top-Notch Award for Work with Offenders

Mark Sizer, Community Corrections Division Director for Stearns County, recently received the prestigious Jack Young Award. This is one of the most esteemed awards a person can receive in the community corrections field.

Sizer took home the honor for his creative and successful work in community corrections. His innovative yet proven tactics and methods for community corrections are recognized as outstanding by many in his line of work.

Dakota County Community Corrections Director, Barb Illsley, along with some of her peers, nominated Sizer for the award, citing his leadership in the field for a number of years, including his leadership in statewide initiatives.

Currently, Sizer serves as chair of the Stearns County Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee and is working to promote systematic change in the way offenders are detained in the county jail.

Sizer also chairs a statewide Out-of-Home Placement Task Force which recently published a guide to assist professionals in the juvenile justice system when making difficult decisions about the placement of youth outside their home. In 2000, the Department of Corrections asked Sizer to chair the Statewide Outcome Measures, Performance Enhancement and Data Integration Committee.

A huge undertaking, this group worked to identify statewide outcomes for correctional practices rather than each county using their own measurements.

The next year, Sizer was again approached by the Department of Corrections and asked to chair the State Data Definition Team. This group is currently defining how outcome measures should be collected and what data systems and protocols should be used.

Sizer plays a leadership role in a number of organizations, including MACCAC, Minnesota Association of Community Corrections Act Counties, serving on the legislative, public relations and conference committees. His participation on the Department of Corrections Community Service Advisory Committee has given Sizer many opportunities to advance research based community practices.

Sizer was one of the first in the state to implement offender risk/need assessment and case management. Using research validated assessment tools to assess the risk and need level of offenders, rather than basing risk and need solely on whether the offender committed a misdemeanor, gross misdemeanor or felony crime.

Restorative Justice is another example of Sizer's unique approach to community corrections. Restorative Justice is based on the philosophy that crime can best be resolved and prevented by working to heal all parties involved: the victim and community as well as the offender. Victims will actually participate in the justice process. Success is based on how much repair was done rather than how much punishment was inflicted.

Did he? Shasta and her brother were taken from a residence in Cour D'Alene Idaho, and she was found in Cour D'Alene Idaho. Everything may well have taken place without anyone leaving the same town, let alone the state. No evidence there of an interstate connection...

Yes, it's called NCIC and if they would have bothered to type in his name they would have had his record in seconds, including the fact that he was on parole for child rape.
