THE MORNING PAPER

July 4,2005

My wife beat me to the paper this morning, so she gets dibs on the good part: the Comics.

Me ? I'm stuck with the Editorial section;so I leaf over to Reader Opinions-(formerly known as Letters to the Editor).

Hey ! Happy Independence Day !

Our "Opining Readers" seem to have demonstrated their talent and dedication to independent thinking by submitting "cut-and-paste" letters.

(For anyone unfamiliar with this, certain organizations supply Reader Opinion letters, which they invite you to copy-with a few clicks of the mouse-and e-mail to your local paper.)

Let's see: there's one from MoveOn.org-the true, clear voice of Multi-billionaire George Soros...and here's one from A.N.S.W.E.R.-the true, clear voice of Trotsky-style Communism in America (ever so much more fashionable than Stalinism, don't you think ?).

This one seems to have originated at Antiwar.com-a group of "anarchists-in-bowties",that claims to be Libertarian-and here's one from The Mickey Moore Club (need I elaborate ?)

Finally, there's one from a woman, who does not seem to be affiliated with any specific group.(She doesn't need to be affiliated, because she is one very nasty piece of work, all by herself !)

She's ticked off because the Armed Forces are getting our attention this holiday weekend. Why,she wonders, should we care whether they get killed or wounded ? They are armed, aren't they ?

We should, she says,be paying attention to Gender Issues,Potty Parity, the high prices charged at beauty salons;tuition hikes at suitable private schools, and Social Problems-such as the cost of refuelling a luxury model SUV.

Sigh.............

Come on, dear ! Are you reading those comics or memorizing them ??

Liberal selfishness on display. They think the only things that should ever get attention are those that matter to them.

Let us have our Independence Day.
The liberals have plenty of their own Days to rant:

Earth Day
Labor Day
MLK Day
May Day
And April 15th.

I see this liberal selfishness almost every day. Every day on my drive to my job at Hanscom Air Force Base, I pass through the center of Concord, Massachusetts. Last week there were a bunch of hippies left over from the 1960s walking around the small rotary. Two of the hippies were holding a sign proclaiming: We walk with those injured by war. I rolled down my windown and yelled, "Hope to see you at the Bedford VA hospital!" I got the finger from them.

These are the same idiots who have bumperstickers showing a Minuteman reading, "Save our heritage. No aircraft at Hanscom."

These are also the same idiots who want Hanscom AFB kept open because it pumps about $4 billion into the local economy annually but who hate the military which gave them freedom 230 years ago and which has kept them free since and who tend to be so far left as to make Marx, Lenin, and Trotsky look like Republicans.

I have a good friend who met me on my first day stationed here. I have know this individual for almost a quarter of a century. He grasped my hand, shook it firmly, and said, "Welcome to the Soviet Socialist Republic of Massghanistan." He is 100% right.

Seriously?

Let's buy her a one-way ticket to Cuba.

When I was a teenager I was busy getting stoned all the time and didn't have the self discipline to serve in the military. Today at 40 years old and half crippled I wish I had been wise enough to serve at 18.

Every day I read the front page, editorial page and comics in our local newspaper. Most days I can't tell much difference.
