(Hartford-WTNH, July 3, 2005 7:00 PM) _ On this holiday weekend, thousands of Muslims gather in Hartford to learn more about living in America and still maintaining their faith.
Abdul Quadir Brula's family travelled from Albany, New York to Hartford today in search of answers.
"This is very important," says Abdul Quadir Brula.
Quadir Brula's family, and thousands of other Muslims are facing a huge challenge; how to bring up a family according to Islamic principles, while living in the United States as a US citizen.
"There are a few difficulties as well which we have to cope with."
Difficulties like their boys not participating in birthday parties at school because it's forbidden by Islam.
"There are many difficulties especially in public schools because there are many differences between US and Americans," says Huma Quadir, Albany, NY.
So this weekend more than 5,000 Muslims will listen to guest speakers, interactive messages.
"Islam is grossly misunderstood"
And shop among the 250-vendors inside the Connecticut Convention Center. All if it part of the Islamic Circle of North America Convention.
Ever since the terrorist attacks on September 11th of 2001, many Muslims say they feel shunned because of cultural needs many restaurants in Hartford were guided as to which foods the convention goers could eat.
And separate dining areas were set up in the convention center for Muslim men and women.

Yes, I can see that living in America is very difficult for Muslims. They have many challenges. Here’s an example which comes to mind.
How do Muslim parents teach their elementary school age children to be "outsiders” and refuse to join in birthday celebrations of classmates? A small problem to an adult, but one which is very important from the child's viewpoint.
How do the Muslim parents explain to their children the harm and the disgrace in singing “Happy Birthday” and having refreshments and playing games?
Muslim parents have to show their child that it is wrong to have fun and that the carefree American children are evil and that they, the Muslim children, are superior, thus MUST remain isolated and cold and indifferent. And Muslims think this is the way to groom their children to becoming fulfilled adults, living productive lives, and become loving individuals? WRONG!
Why, for the love of God, don’t they stay out of America and fix their own countries.
The anser is: They see what we have here. It is very attractive to them. They want it. They are very greedy. And their religious teaching give them justification to want to kill us and take it from us.
There is a complete lack of love, understanding, and caring in the Muslim character. How can it NOT be? From this one example, what a great opportunity for a child to understand love and sharing, than to participate in a celebration of another child's birthday? It gives each child an opportunity to learn the lessons of giving, each in their own turn. There are opportunities to receive and their are opportunities to give.
But to the Muslim child, there is only the opportunity to build hate, judge others, and build lasting resentments.
Wow! On American's birthday -- a powerful lesson in the difference between being an American and being a Muslim.
Ain't that the truth ... The Sunni and Shia murder each other because they have different understandings about the descendants of Mohammad, and the Wahabbi murder Sunni and Shia because of different understandings about the correct interpretation of the Koran. So, yes ... Islam is grossly misunderstood ... by the Muslims.

Sad day for the country when that happens. Thank God we have several organizations that duke it out with them whenever the get crazy which is most of the time.

If you're not willing or are not permitted to adapt to American laws and ways, then why in the hell did you come here? To create problems by trying to convert us? You have no right to bitch and complain and expect sympathy because you came here with your eyes wide open and if you didn't then it's a personal problem and deal with it instead of trying to blame us for your shortcomings.
I THINK I HAVE THE ANSWER TO HOW MUSLIMS CAN LIVE IN AMERICA, AND REMAIN TRUE TO THEIR REPRESSIVE ISLAMIC PRINCIPLES. FIRST, THIS SHOULD SATISFY THE ACLU, EACH FAMILY WOULD RECEIVE 12 GOATS AND A SURPLUS ARMY TENT. THEY WOULD THEN BE RE-SETTLED TO DEATH VALLEY, CA. WHERE THEY CAN SPEND THEIR DAYS ON THEIR KNEES, PRAYING TO ALLAH AND SNIFFING THE SAND FOR WATER, JUST LIKE THEIR ANCESTORS HAVE DONE FOR TWO THOUSAND YEARS., AND JUST TO REMIND THEM WHERE THEY ARE, A LARGE AMERICAN FLAG WILL BE ERECTED IN THE CENTER OF THE COMPOUND. NO BIRTHDAY PARTYS HERE!!!!!

Islamic principles and America are incompatible ideas. Period.
If I'm thinking of the same family or individual(s), that actually turned out to be drug-related or some such.
Ask yourself, what kind of religion is it whose leaders condone the use of suicide bombing to kill innocent women and children. And, what kind of Muslims do we have in America who, in general, refuse to condemn such activity. In America's melting pot, Muslims don't melt -- and that phenomenon can be attested to by everyone from noted historians to the man on the street. Sooner or later -- likely after a second attack on the USA -- the Congress will move to severely limit Muslim immigration. If not, it will only be two deccades before we have the problem that Europe is facing today.
