(CNN) -- One member of a U.S. special operations reconnaissance team missing in Afghanistan since Tuesday has been rescued, a U.S. official speaking on condition of anonymity told CNN.
The team member "evaded the enemy and was successfully rescued by U.S. forces," the official said.
No other details are being released because the search for other missing members of the team continues, the official said.
A military helicopter crashed Tuesday while bringing reinforcements to the team, killing all 16 service members aboard.
The U.S. military believes the chopper was downed by a rocket-propelled grenade.
It is the worst single-day death toll for U.S. forces since the Afghan war began nearly four years ago.
The reconnaissance team called for reinforcements during a battle with insurgents on the ground. It was the last contact the U.S. military received from the team until the weekend rescue.
When U.S. forces arrived at the site of the chopper crash, the small reconnaissance team was not there, military officials said.
There was no sign of blood or immediate combat, the officials said.
The forces were participating in Operation Red Wing, an effort to defeat terrorists in Kunar province, according to a statement from the Coalition Press Information Center in Kabul.
Among those killed in the chopper crash were eight Navy SEALs assigned to units in Norfolk, Virginia, and San Diego, California; seven soldiers from the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, based at Hunter Army Airfield in Georgia; and one soldier from the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Hopefully the other team members will be found. I am sure this soldier will provide critical intel in his debriefing.

Want to bet? In the mind of the soldier rescued it is a miracle. God's hand shielded him.
True to my mind, whether it is in his yet or not.
Thanks for the ping, Jeff.
This solider is bound to provide good intel in his debrief (going on right now I am sure) in helping determine the location and fate of the others.
Great news is worth a duplicate post or two. Hoping and praying for lots more.

Great news. I pray that the others are also rescued.
Me too. You can bet that the debriefing of this soldier, who successfully E&E'd...will give valuable intel to help in locating the others.
