Notorious sex killer to leave prison Monday

MONTREAL, Quebec (AP) -- The most reviled woman in Canada is set to walk out of prison Monday, facing death threats and rage from a public still bitter that she only served 12 years for the rapes and murders of teenage girls, including her younger sister.

Karla Homolka is so frightened someone might harm her that her lawyers are demanding an unprecedented media blackout on her release and subsequent whereabouts, a move that will be challenged by media attorneys in a Montreal courtroom on Monday.

Many in this French-speaking city believe Homolka has done her time and should be given her second chance at life, which she got after making a deal with the state in exchange for testifying against her ex-husband.

Dubbed "English-Canada's monster," by Quebecois, the 35-year-old former veterinarian assistant who grew up near Niagara Falls has said she intends to settle in Montreal, hoping for anonymity amid those perhaps less familiar with her crimes.

She killed her sister? This whole story is weird. If accurate, I don't understand why she only served 12 years. Doing the math, she was an adult when she did these things. What gives? She's a monster and should be put to death. Oh, Canada.....

If this case doesn't necessitate the death penalty, I don't know what would.

She's still young and single and ready to mingle!

Many in this French-speaking city believe Homolka has done her time and should be given her second chance at life.

This sounds more like liberal CNN editorializing than actual reporting.

The mystery surrounding Homolka's mental illness led Ontario prosecutors last month to seek, successfully, heavy restrictions on her movement and activities.

This seems like a very odd choice of words.

I guess the CNN writer is trying to say that evil is really a "mysterious mental illness."

Read Canadian blogs. Even the most virulent socialists want this woman locked up for life, and many have even lamented not having the death penalty. This is the kind of case that can change some minds.

Much of what passes for MSM "reporting" comes across as editorials.

"I don't understand why she only served 12 years"

An insane plea bargain to testify against her husband.

Law and Order did a take off on this case a few years ago -- evil incarnate. This woman will come to a bad end.

Had a horrible thought. She'll probably come to the US and feel right at home with all the sex fiends on the loose.

She claimed she was a battered wife and deathly afraid of her husband.

So, she bashed in the face of her sister.

She won't be safe anywhere. The whole country (Canada) is aware of her deeds. She is afraid.

I see.....but I'll be darned if I understand. I'm wondering how long she'll be able to "blend in" to the city of Montreal.

Not only has liberalism invaded and taken over our colleges, it has taken over the prison system as well.

My brother works at a prison here in Ohio. It is run by a lesbian. The inmates do fingerpainting and then their pictures are discussed to get their feelings out.

Sounds like she'd be safer in prison; keep her there.

"fingerpainting"

It's a job training prgm. If they get out, they can open shop in a high end neighborhood and live on NEA grants.
