Fellow Freepers, I need your prayers. Living in the Atlanta suburbs, I use my mountain bike, along with public transportation, to commute to and from work. I use sidewalks to stay out of traffic, when it is convenient. I consider myself a pretty good rider, and wear my helmet all of the time (almost).
Last Thursday, as I was on my way to the Lindbergh MARTA station, I made a manuever off of the sidewalk to go around two pedestrians. Upon my transition back onto the sidewalk, I made an error in approaching the curb (too parallel), my back tire kicked out, grabbed the curb, and threw me into the concrete -- face-first.
Stunned, I sat up, with the two pedestrians and a store owner running to my aid. I did not know the extent of my injuries, and thought I was okay. Just then, a co-worker rolled up to see me on the ground, and pulled over. He took one look at me, scooped me up, and zoomed to Piedmont Hospital, just a couple of miles away.
After a CATscan, x-rays, tetanus shot, and some major cleanup, I was informed of the damage. I really need some prayers, as I am in very bad pain, and cannot afford to miss much work.
In addition to the road-rash abrasions, and contusions, I have a fractured left arm, fractured nose, and I broke two front teeth. God was looking over me. For once, I did not put on my helmet, but did not get a concussion. The co-worker that was on the scene right after I crashed, just happened to decide to leave when I did from work. And, the accident happened just before an extended weekend, so that hopefully I'll have more time to recover, without missing much work.
I'm a bit bummed about my teeth, as I will be attending my nephew's wedding in two weeks, and I'll be aware of my smile. Oh well, if it's God's will that I look like this for a while, then I'm okay withh that.
Again, thanks for any prayers that you send up. FReepers are the best!!
HeeHee!
Thanks for your prayers.
Prayers for your complete recovery. I can relate to your injury. I fell down 5 cement steps about 5 years ago. I only cracked a rib and dislocated my wrist but I was stunned for several days because of the hit to my jaw and the side of my head. I felt like a prize fighter after a fight I suspect. Like you, my family didn't realized how badly hurt I was and they ignored me. If you bike to work every day you are probably in great physical shape which will help in your recovery. The best to you.
Well, I wouldn't demand it, but that does sound like a feasible idea. Who knows, there may be something like that.
Even if I would have had it on, it would not have helped protect my face, for sure. The entire left side of my face is an abrasion; from cheek to ear to eyebrow, and even the upper lip going inside my mouth. I haven't been back to the crash site yet, but have a suspicion that I hit another concrete curb that surrounds a light pole with my face and mouth.
Prayers headed your way, sweetie!
Drink lots of milk and eat lots of meat. Your bones will need all the help they can get to knit. And follow your doc's orders TOTALLY.
I have a crooked collarbone to demonstrate what happens if you don't. Be a lot worse to have a zigzag in an arm bone than in a chicken wing like mine is.
I appreciate your prayers.
Framer, animal rescue, underlivery . . . you have done a variety of intriguing work!
I have my Neosporin right here on the table! My wonderful, beautiful, angel of a wife is taking great care of me. I couldn't be in better hands. God is good!
Thanks for praying for me. I just turned 40 in April, so I will definitely be following doctor's orders to heal properly. Thankfully, my boss/company owner said that I can take as much time as needed, and that my job is secure and there whenever I get back. I have a little vacation/sick time built up, so that will help.
And one of these days I'll figure out what I want to do when I grow up.
Prayers on the way that you be healed quickly and completely.
Thank you.
Seriesly, prayers for you that you weren't hurt worse, and that your busted arm gets better quickly. Next time, jump the curb! (j/k)
Jakk, I'm sorry to hear about your accident. I pray for your full recovery and healing. Dentists can sometimes reset the teeth if they get them in the right condition. I don't know if you kept them. Please take it easy and I hope you recover enough to get back to work, if you really have to.
Prayers for comfort and quick healing.
..and a Hang in there BUMP!
I'm in for some prayers for you. Apparently it's time for you to slow down for a while. You were certainly protected, the way you describe what happened, my gosh, it could have been so much worse.
How far is it to work? Maybe you could walk to work from now on.
Anyway, you have my prayers and best wishes for a speedy recovery and freedom from pain of any kind.
Thanks for the prayers. The bike is okay, just a little bloody. I had just reached the top of a hill, so I wasn't going fast enough to break the bike....just my face.
I appreciate it.
I'll add my prayers to all the others here that you make a quick and complete recovery! I hope you'll keep us updated.
I really care about my fellow FReepers. FReepy people are the finest and I'm glad you're one of us! We'll all be zapping you with warm wishes, hugs and prayers!
