Our Turn Now

In the substance and presentation of his speech The President has done his work well and effectively. But, the burden of sustaining his policy can't rest on him alone - he has to govern. In the House and Senate there has to be a group with the backbone to reiterate his message each and every day, at each and every opportunity.

"When they talk the way they do about the war it encourages the enemy. The enemy knows that the only way they can win is for the American people to feel about the war the way the Senator and Congresswoman seem to. When the enemy is encouraged more American fighting men and women die than would have otherwise . It's that simple."

I cannot understand why Bush critics on the right and left fail to understand the reality of Iraq. Iraq is terrorist flypaper. It forces the terrorist to fight our strength, (our military) on a battle field of OUR choosing with numerous allies (the vast bulk of the Iraqi people) with their weakest ability (conventional military strength). In stead of hiding in camps in countries around the world planning attacks on our civilians, the terrorists are going into Iraq and getting killed. What is really despicable is that people who know full well that is what Iraq is all about (Wes Clark, Joe Biden, John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy et al) are busy doing everything they can to undermine that effort for no better reason then their own political ambitions. The very fact that those people are willing to put their own personal political goals ahead of what is best for the American people indicates clearly they are unfit for any power at any level. What I cannot understand is why some spokespeople for the Right seem so willing to join with the Hysteric Left in undermining this effort!

I agree! There's no political stand-down anymore.
The Opposition is no longer "Loyal" and can't be trusted to put the interests of the country before its own narrow partisan interests.
So, as you've said, we need to keep pushing - especially to have our own in Congress stand up and hold the defeatists to account for the lives they've cost us through the encouragement they've given to our enemies.

All we can do is use every chance we have - and make new ones - to try and educate those who've not yet understood the realities of our situation, and are open to listening.
