I think GWB should nominate a moderate like O'Conner, to appease the wild dogs and allow a smooth confirmation. When the next appointment comes up, likely for Chief, thats the time to go for the gold, using this smooth confirmation to show just how its supposed to work.
The ONLY "coup" that was planned and pulled off, against President Nixon, was done by the Washington Post, CBSNBCANC,the New York Times, some Dems, Hillary Rodham, Felt, and that weasel and his wife ( she who was the reason for the WATERGATE break-in to begin with, to keep her from being outed as the well paid whore she was !), the Deans.
There are those who won't be happy until Barry Goldwater is raised from the dead and installed in the Oval Office. And then there are those who won't be happy until Pat Buchanan is sworn in as President. And then there are trolls who won't be happy until Karl Marx is POTUS. Take your pick, they all bitch and cry and carry on and promise never to vote Republican again because of:
A: the border,
B: taxes,
C: abortion,
D: the latest judge isn't conservative enough,
E: the border,
F: he's too soft on al Quaeda,
G: he's not Ronald Reagan,
H: he's George H. W. Bush's son,
I: his daughter's are better looking than Chelsea(that's for the DUmmies),
J: Pat Buchanan says so!
K: John McCain says so!
L: Chuck Hagel says that John McCain told him he said so!
M: Lindsay Graham said that Chuck Hagel told him it was okay for him to say that John McCain said it was okay to say so!
N: Mike DeWine and cheese
O: Patty White wasn't invited to this year's July 4th BBQ and Bar Mitzvah,
P: Teddy Kennedy's new U-Boat was repossessed,
Q: Robert Byrd's Sam's Card expired on the eve of the all-white sale,
R: Brit Hume finally lost it and beat the ever loving crap out of Juan Williams on the Fox News Sunday panel,
S: the border,
T: abortion,
U: the border,
V: Earl Weaver for the Supreme Court!
W: Billy Martin's ashes for the Supreme Court!
X: the border,
Y: Vince Lombardi's remains for the DC circuit!
Z: the border
As you can see, FReepers are a diverse group with many gripes about the current President.
Your comment about selling brains made me burst out laughing! This thread is comical -- you couldn't make up some of what I have been reading on here -- no one would believe a conservative website has some of these statements I am reading.
*rolls eyes*
Sadly, there are far too many posters who neither know nor understand politics or history.
I am laughing so hard I am having trouble typing -- what a list! :)
I agree, but I think I'd have to medicate myself beforehand.
Do you want to give some Freepers a heart attack -- moderate won't cut it. You had better take cover and fast!
Well done and in spades. :-)
Agreed. I hope you figure it out, soon.
If one considers the rantings of assholes such as Fat Teddy and others of his ilk seriously, then our Troops have already committed war crimes.
Support of the Troops could easily be turned into a war crime in light of the Nurenburg trials precedents, and based on current media sentiments.
My senior senator is the most treasonous bastard that the Congress has ever seen, yet none (so far) will stand against him in the Massachusetts Senate race next year.
God, why couldn't my parents have made me born rich? I'd love to have a shot at taking that murdering drunkard bastard to the proverbial cleaners.
I suppose that we will all have to be simply content to know that someday the books shall be opened, and then all things will be revealed.
I would not want to be that fat bastard Ted Kennedy on that day. Heck, I am not sure that I want to be myself, but at least I never killed anybody, and all that other BS that he is so well known for.
As I said earlier, I don't think that poster was a Perot supporter. He's obsessed w/ Nixon; he's all over the place w/ his arguments; he's learned nothing from the past. He fits the prfole of a typical Lyndon LaRouche supporter.
Actually, this was entirely predictable in the second term of a Republican presidency. History repeats itself, unfortunately.
Somehow, we always manage to go just a bit too far when we have the reins, and then we pay for it. It's usually the extreme conservatives that are the driving force behind it, too. They forget that the Republican party is a coalition of several other parties and interests and that THEIR agenda isn't the only one.
They sit and wait patiently during the first term, holding their tongues on certain issues (how come the illegals ain't been shot yet? Why haven't we nuked the godless
A-rabs yet? When is ya gonna give me my welfare, only call it a tax refund, please?), and then, when the President is safely ensconced within his second term, they pounce like cats.
Suddenly the man they pretty much selected in the primaries and two elections is no longer their guy. He has not catered to them and mollycoddled them enough. The same people who would complain that Bill Clinton was bought and sold by Hollywood never notice their own hypocrisy: we put you here, Mr. President, we OWN you.
Reagan got away with it because he was tougher than most of the self-appointed guardians of Conservatism here.
What was it the comic strip once said? "We have met the enemy -- and it is us?"
Very good point.
I cannot quit laughing at some of these comments -- someone just said we need a moderate to get the nomination through smoothly ...
Great, the ghost of Neville Chamberlain has showed up.
Get Bent!
I had it "figured out" before you were out of diapers; perhaps before you were a gleam in your father's eye. OTOH, it appears that you never shall...have much of anything figured out, that is.
