I agree with you.
Same way it happened in Kansas.
Oklahoma loves football like Indiana loves basketball. J.C. Watts is the perfect match for Okie passions, in sports, and minor league politics. He was a good congressman, but not at all likely to become governor.
In the land of Will Rogers, and the great Indian Nation of the Cherokee, there are many currents which are hard to decipher.
You can take it to the bank that Brad Henry is not having a good night's sleep following this poll -- Tulsa World ran a poll like this for Carson and it turned out to be phoney so who knows about this one. This same fishwrap had Carson beating Dr. Tom by about 8 or 9 points right before the election and we all know that Dr. Tom clobbered Carson.
Guess if you like a Governor that sleeps until noon and is always late to meetings and doesn't tell the Lt Governor he is going to be out of the State, you would like Henry.
Lt Gov Fallin announced this week that she is not going to run for Governor but run for Lt Governor. J.C. is in the State visiting different people this month. Heard from an extremely reliable source that they are 99.99% sure J.C. is running and if Mary announced she was running for Lt Gov, we could assume he was running.
J.C. almost stood up at the OK GOP Convention when Mary asked for candidates thinking of running please stand up but his soon to be campaign manager had him stay seated. In his speech he talked about sacrificing for the State of Oklahoma and how much he missed being here in Oklahoma -- used to always use the words sacrifice for America.
If you are a betting person, bet on J.C. running and becoming our next Governor unless something unforseen comes up.
Well Keating didn't do much to help Largent win -- was still mad at Largent because Largent didn't hand his seat to Keating's wife Cathy. As a sidenote, Richardson, the Indy no tax on anything guy, was Keating's former law partner and has come back in the Republican Party. He received over 100,000 votes with his free tuition, no turnpikes, no taxes -- don't know how they were going to run the State but we had 100,000 dumb voters believe him.
BTW, Largent ran a horrible campaign -- never answered any charges and didn't campaign around the state and still only lost by less than 5,000 votes.
Tulsa World must be afraid that J.C. is about to announce -- J.C. said once if the Tulsa World and Norman Transcript endorsed him, he would know he was in trouble. Both liberal fishwraps!
I don't know if it was libertarian vote but we had 100,000 morons vote for Richardson -- Perot was more believeable than him.
Not many Libs here from numbers I have seen.
He wanted free tuition for everyone as well. I cannot believe people bought into his free everything. He was an annoying candidate if you ask me!
I believe the brother's name is Walter, he shot a guy 2 times in the back and once in the side, tried to tell the Judge it was self-defense, Judge didn't buy it and gave him 25 yrs -- it was over some money the guy had found.
No, I haven't checked up on them since we moved from Oklahoma. Doesn't surprise me, though. I always had the impression that the Keatings thought they were too special for Oklahoma.
In 2000, Frank Keating was on the short list for Veep. Then in 2004, he strangely showed no interest in running for the 2004 Senate seat. Has Keating's star power faded? I think he might make a good Veep in 2008 or even Supreme Court Justice.
I've been known to drop a bet or two but in this case I'll just say, I hope yer right.
Amen to that. A comparison to other heartland states with economic challenges is warranted. I grew up in Oklahoma and remember Henry Bellmon (R, twice), George Nigh (D), David Walters (D, ARRRRGH!) before Keating. I lived in Little Rock, AR and saw similar currents. These are (generally) socially conservative people with pocket-book challenges.
The flow of Federal funds, in a rural state where the largest city is under 500,000 has an effect. State house and Senate often were democrat-run while constituents voted republican for president reliably. Frustrating.
"Seventy-two percent say they approve of the job Henry is doing, 17.5 percent disapprove and 10.5 percent are undecided."
I know this governor is a democrat, but it's hard to beat numbers like that.
Who is this Watts? Man or woman? Never heard.
