They've got a lot of nerve to call the bulk of French viticulture "fine wine."

"The source of his melancholy is a European Union-funded process in which some of the quality red wine he produces will be distilled into undrinkable ethanol for use as factory fuel"

That's the funniest item I've read all week!

"Screw France, they can piss all the wine they want, I hope their Grapes rot on the vines..."

Actually all the grape vines in France are descendents from California vines, shipped to France in the early 20th century after France lost their entire vineyard to a heavy frost. Just a bit of trivia.

How appropriate is this note...?

As I let my Hardys Nottage Hill Merlot (south Eastern Australia) breathe for a moment or two.

Their Shairaz Cabernet is fine wine too.

Let the french twist in the wind and burn their wine for heat, for all I care.

They will rue the day.

I buy a lot of wine but haven't bought a French bottle in years. Mostly I buy from Italy and Australia.

I buy ALOT of wine, most of which come from Italy, California, Washington, Oregon, Chile, Argentina, and Spain. When I went to Paris two weeks ago, I broke down and bought three bottles. Of those three, only a red from Corsica, made from the Niellucciu grape, was worth the price paid, which in that case was 9 Euro.

France. Wine. Tears. Bah!

Never did like the French stuff, maybe the snootiness of their attitude during my one visit to Paris carried over. Who cares? The Germans have good wine, as do we and many others.

But that isn't the point here...

The French have been hit hard by their political action, and it continues to hurt because of their politics.

Given a huge hit in the market by whatever, an American company would cut prices on the remaining inventory, flood the market with CHEAP product and remind the consumer just they they enjoyed it in the first place!

GM has a similar problem (not the causes, the problem) and has just enjoyed a 19 year record sales month by cutting prices. No profits today, but inventory is down and in a year or three many will trade in good cars for new from the same company (if in fact the are indeed good).

France is Socialist, and the solutions are Socialist, and the results will be Socialist.

I never did like French wines but I love Brie, but wouldn't buy it if made in France. Now I found that Safeway has a great Brie made in the US.
