Border project to meet: Goliad volunteers will gather to plan Minuteman effort (Texas)
Corpus Christi Caller-Times ^ | July 2, 2005 | Lakendra Lewis

The leader of the Goliad chapter of the Minuteman Project said 75 to 100 people are interested in joining the group, and that they plan to meet next week to organize a civilian-led border watch that would start in October.

Bill Parmley, president of the newly formed Minuteman Civil Defense Corps of Texas-Goliad Chapter, said members will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Goliad County Fairgrounds.

They will discuss operation rules and how to align the Goliad chapter with 10 other Minuteman states to become part of the overall Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. The group's focus is preventing undocumented immigrants from crossing into the U.S.

"It's not a one-time thing in the week; it's not a one-time thing in the day; it's around the clock," said Parmley of the problems he and other landowners had faced for years with illegal immigrants who camp on their land.

Parmley invited Chris Simcox, co-founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps based in Arizona, to speak in Goliad at a June 20 informational meeting. About 250 residents and law enforcement officials from throughout the state attended the meeting, which also attracted statewide media attention.

"We've had hundreds of new volunteers contact us since our trip there," Simcox said.

Parmley said that since the meeting, he has received inquiries from people interested in starting similar chapters in Falfurrias, Houston, San Antonio, Odessa and the Rio Grande area.

People are still contacting him about joining the Goliad chapter, he said, and all will be screened before accepted into the organization.

"We're mainly interested in more mature people," Parmley said. "People who have been in the military, retirees, those who realize what the operation is about. We're strictly observationists, no contact, no intervention."

Minuteman volunteers must pass an FBI background check and are given an extensive orientation, Parmley said. There is a $50 registration fee to cover the cost of the background check, which takes 60 days.

When the planned patrols begin in October, groups of four will go out with videocameras, Parmley said. Illegal activity will be reported to the proper agencies, he said.

Excellent story, SwinneySwitch. I love the idea of the FBI background check. Makes it a little tougher for liberals to characterize them as dangerous crazies. Also helps weed out people who might do things that really could discredit the project.

I agree. It was really bad publicity when those neo-nazis tried to join for their own malicious reasons. This way, the project can be kept clean and honest.

"I love the idea of the FBI background check. "

Since when does the FBI perform background checks for private organizations?

It's probably just some type of record of conviction request. But it makes the koolaide look better.

"Since when does the FBI perform background checks for private organizations?"

I was curious about that, too, but assumed Mr. Parmley was telling the truth. I surely hope so. Submitting to FBI background checks would be a wise and responsible thing to do, in my opinion. There are always a few disturbed persons in any large enough population. We don't really need some crackpot shooting at illegals. Can you imagine the political fallout that would have?

That's SOP for the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps to protect them and the ranchers whose land they will be on.

"A $50 non-refundable volunteer registration fee is required to cover fees for a security background check and administrative costs."

"Had any MS-13 "babysitters" in your backyard lately, bayourod?"

I "met" two of them last week. They came in a shop I was at. They were neatly groomed and dressed like your average college student. They had shaved heads.

The shop owner "introduced" them to me as "a couple of my skin-headed Meskin friends." They just stared me in the eyes a few seconds, turned around and left.

After they left he told me they were MS-13. They had a chilling confident look about them that scared the crud outta me.

They won't last long here, the media is on them like white on rice. All the radio and TV stations are reporting that another one was arrested today.

They might as well have a bounty on them.

PS: Thank God our law enforcement agencies are addressing the problem here as a criminal gang problem instead of listening to the hysterical anti-illegals who think the solution to every problem is to "seal" the border.

They must have been part of that assumed 50% who manage somehow to get through our "guarded" border!

From what I understand, they cross at ports of entry. They don't rely on mules, they bring in hundreds of kilos at a time by bribing the inspectors. You never read about them losing a shipment.

Is this one of your neatly groomed and dressed like your average college student with a shaved head? How many kilos did they weigh?

He wouldn't last a week in Houston. We treat criminals like criminals, not misguided victims.
