As the minority leader of the U.S. Senate, Harry Reid will be power broker of sorts. Friday, Reid went on the record saying he wants the confirmation process to be as free of political warfare as possible.

Sure he does!
It's the right of all male, Massachusetts Brahman's to a dumpy sugar-momma with a big trust-fund.
It insures the availability of BOTOX® and pumpkin-hued, tanning lotions before important speaking engagements.
And most important... it guarantees the unlimited supply of high-octane fuel for the 'Scaramouch' and the 'Flying Squirrel'!
What makes me sad is the Republicans just don't get it. Look at McCain. Took the democrat bait and made a fool of himself, including the few Republicans that went along. It's time to stop listening to the CRATS and just go on with business as fast as they can. Drop the Constitutional Option on the CRATS and President Bush must make a nomination within a week. Just move the thing and ignore the CRATS. There will be a few Democrats that will see the game is over and will go along with the nomination or they face not being reelected for their next term.
Translation: He wants Bush to nominate Larry Tribe.
"Both Carpo and Martinez would be replaced by Reps."
For a while, at least. Martinez's seat would be up in a special election in 2006.
HA! You 'gotta be 'kiddin.
Hmmmmm..... O'Connor said she isn't stepping down till the Senate confirms her replacement. And can Bush really recess appoint someone to the Supreme Court?
Exactly!
So in the spirit of cooperation Bush should nominate ex-Senator John Ashcroft.
Sad, but true.
India doesn't have birth control. They DO abort, for a boy, but only after the 10th girl. I do exaggerate, but not much.
Imagine a China with NO birth control.
Thriple shudder.
Then tell Ralph Neas to go away.
This is a curious argument JFK III makes. (I believe he has just failed his small test.) A pre-law student should know better than that. Contrary to his suggestion, the Constitution was never meant to follow the ideological mainstream, the fadish idea of what is right today. It is about predictability of process, not predictability of results. I could probably justify Facism and Mercantilism and free beer on Fridays in searching through the penumbras and emanations coming out of the Constitution. The Court is not the agency that should manage policy.
The legislature represents the people and their varied ideologies. The executive represents the operation of the government. The judiciary represents the basic rule set contained in the Constitution (as amended). To do anything other than to err on the side of the words of the founders or those words since properly adopted is the real extremism.
Thats what a lawyer will tell you after a guilty verdict too.
errr ok....LOL
let me guess, you want it done tomorrow right?
I'm really getting sick of this garbage. How about "best qualified"
As free from Politics As Possible? Then why would we nominate a politician?
I come from a state where the voters are verrrry undemanding of their legislators and rely on the activism of their judges.
DON"T
Umm, not if he appointed a Senator with a Repubican Governor.
I actually do think that Linsay Graham would be a good choice. His views are solidly conservative, he's just too much of a horse trader. If he were a Supreme Court Justice, he wouldn't have the same political choices to screw up, and he could just be a normal conservative. Also, we'd have him out of the Senate, making way for one of the many talented Rs in his state.
Bob Reily would replace Sessions. Reily is a RINO, but he's still an R.
Although I actually wouldn't mind Sessions running for Reily's job. He'd be a good Governor, and he'd be able to stop Roy Moore.
Hmmm. Did you forget he was one of the "Sick Seven"?
