NEW YORK -- Now that Time Inc. has turned over documents to federal court, presumably revealing who its reporter, Matt Cooper, identified as his source in the Valerie Plame/CIA case, speculation runs rampant on the name of that source, and what might happen to him or her. Tonight, on the syndicated McLaughlin Group political talk show, Lawrence O'Donnell, senior MSNBC political analyst, claimed to know that name--and it is, according to him, top White House mastermind Karl Rove.
Here is the transcript of O'Donnell's remarks:
"What we're going to go to now in the next stage, when Matt Cooper's e-mails, within Time Magazine, are handed over to the grand jury, the ultimate revelation, probably within the week of who his source is.
"And I know I'm going to get pulled into the grand jury for saying this but the source of...for Matt Cooper was Karl Rove, and that will be revealed in this document dump that Time magazine's going to do with the grand jury."
Other panelists then joined in discussing whether, if true, this would suggest a perjury rap for Rove, if he told the grand jury he did not leak to Cooper. ...

Of course, Rove didn't have anything to do with it, nor did anyone at the WH. There was never any "retaliation".
Lawrence O'Donnell is just resurrecting that as the documents get delivered. Rove's name will appear---as someone reporters spoke to AFTER Novak's column and that fact will be used to obfuscate the timeline. Do not be fooled.
Now it is some guy named Cooper?
The reporters didn't leak the name, a source did. What happened is Wilson wrote his op-ed piece and reporters were informed that the reason why Wilson was selected to go to Niger when he was a vocal Bush administration critic was because his wife worked at the CIA and recommended him. It was not retaliation. She was more than likely not undercover anyway. But then the Wilson camp concocted a new version to twist it to still try and get the Bush people.
He's the guy who had a melt down on MSNBC last year while debating John O'Neill. He kept screaming at O'Neill, "Liar, creepy liar, liar." He had a big title and regular appearances on MSNBC but disappeared directly after his bizarre performance.
No, they wouldn't alter documents, I don't think (not at THIS stage). I think Rove's name will appear as a source in Cooper's notes---but AFTER Novak's piece and commenting on that. Not as the source for Novak's column that sparked Wilson's feigned outrage.
Exactly! Who told Rove? He wouldn't ordinarily be privy to that information. So...the Chimp, or Cheney. My money's on Cheney.
Alas, for our ever dreamin' DUmmy, Cheney and "the Chimp" weren't aware of Wilson's Niger adventure, either, so they'd hardly be able to leak about it.
Back to the drawing board.
In a while, it will be revealed as some Dem plant, and then the Deaniacs will be on all the TV shows claiming "Even Republicans said no crime had been committed".
I sincerely doubt O'Donnell has any inside information on this.
We should know soon because Novak said he will soon reveal his source.
Rove, in fact, isn't "in" the Bush Administration.
Karl Rove,Bush,s puppet master. Most of his choices are bad, ie. open bordrs.

Figured prominently in the Cuban Missile Crisis movie, Thirteen Days- with Kevin Costner
"But here's a little history lesson of its own, broken by Kim Masters on Inside.com. Kenny O'Donnell is the father of one Kevin O'Donnell, co-founder of Earthlink and, coincidentally, a partial financier of Beacon Pictures. And Beacon made Thirteen Days. Doesn't it seem a bit coincidental then that Kenny O'Donnell, a figure who is hardly a footnote in the history books, should figure so prominently in the film? Is it for any reason other than the son saw a way to make daddy famous? Lest this statement seem a bit unfair, one has to remember something about Beacon. This is the company that brought us The Hurricane, a remarkably Oscar-worthy film except for one fact -- it didn't tell the truth about its seemingly admirable hero. One has to wonder where Beacon's sense of responsibility is."
Interesting you bring this one up. Some time ago I recall reading a story about a famous unnamed (but then very young) reporteress entering a swank media party in the early 1960s with the announcement that "I have just come from the bed of the President of the United States! (JFK)" (to which the media whores present allegedly responded by clapping).
Ever since I read this story I have dreamt about asking Clift point blank on that TV show she used to be on if she was the young reporteress in this story.
What a wh**e!
What it means is O'Connell IS LYING THROUGH HIS TEETH.
Rove has already been cleared - by the prosecutor.
Let's not forget it was O'Connell who went on Hardball and ripped John O'Neill apart and threw a fit on TV to keep John from telling the public the truth.
I should point out that though Lawrence has been barking more than usual in this election season's TV commentary, he is a brilliant political analyst and a serious Democratic Party player. He was the late Sen. Moynihan's top Senate staffer. He comes from one of the great Democratic Party families. I believe it was his uncle who was President John Kennedy's White House chief of staff. He is also the most gifted writer/producer on the NBC show, "West Wing." He is not one of those no name nitwits who the cable shows pull from obscurity to recite Democratic Party talking points.
Media leak or Carl Rowe denunciation?
Coming from a convinced, steadfast, true lib I point my finger to leak for the purpose of destruction and tear down.

Ask a question on FR, get a factual answer. How refreshing! One more reason why FR is miles ahead of all its liberal competition.
It was on the McLaughlin Report.
Imagine the NYT, bastion of the MSM, fighting for their first amendment rights...being as they have given maps, details of operations and all sorts of treasonous info thru their paper.
If it were Rove, it would be page one until the next election...unless they could use it to somehow blame Bush.
Unless Novak lied several times, Rove is not the person who first leaked the info to him. However, he may be the person who (whom? argh!) Novak called afterwards and asked about Wilson, to which the reply was, "Oh, you know about that?"
