George P. Bush: Lawmakers can't ignore Social Security problems
Dallas Morning News ^ | July 1, 2005 | George P. Bush

A generation's future hangs in the balance

If you're in your 20s or 30s, why should you care about retirement when it's more than three decades away? Because if Congress doesn't act now to reform Social Security in this session, our generation will not enjoy one of the most cherished entitlements sought by all working Americans.

The problem with Social Security is a simple mathematical issue: There are fewer people paying into the system and more people taking out. And it's getting worse.

People are living longer and having fewer children. The result is that the number of workers paying Social Security taxes to support one retiree has fallen from 40 in 1940 to 16 in 1950 to 3.3 today – and it will be down to a 2-1 ratio by the time our generation retires.

Most people are under the impression that Social Security is a savings account sufficiently funded to provide benefits to our parents and the rest of the baby-boom generation when it retires. However, when Social Security begins paying out more than it collects, in 2017, the only way to meet its obligations will be to increase our taxes, cut our benefits or borrow massive amounts of money that will add to the debt burden on our generation. And the problem will only get worse as we near retirement and Social Security continues to make promises it cannot afford to keep.

Why have members of Congress not represented the interests of our generation? The answer is that they think we don't care about the solvency of Social Security. After all, very few of us bother to get involved with the political process in the first place.

Pretty straight forward simple truth. The Rats will not give an inch on this issue, it's their baby. They have to exterminated at the ballot box. Young voters need to care and get of their drug induced ***.

Since when does logic enter into the thinking of the RAT party.

They'll do all in their power to destroy this country in every possible way.

Nice to see George P. getting into the fray.

Is "George P." getting ready to run? Hope he doesn't get into a primary against somebody who was man enough to "run" down to the recruiting office and serve his/her country in uniform. He may find some folks asking uncomfortable questions. He may find that conservatives value and respect leaders who have military service in their background.

So you don't like Dick Cheney?

I gues you could say that I have "other priorities". It would be nice to have somebody like Reagan, who cheated to get into the service.

Huh. Wonder what he's running for.

He's got a good future. He's, what, 30? Obviously has the connections, good looking, half-hispanic, etc.

He lives in Texas, right? Maybe he can knock off Chet Edwards. Bush took his district easy, and I think it's the only Bush district in Texas that still has a Dem Rep.

Then again, since Edwards district includes Fort Hood and is heavy with military retirees, perhaps we can find a combat veteran to run against Chet...

Reagan felt so strongly that it was important to serve in the military that he cheated on an eye exam to gain entry to the army. Reagan had lousy vision that would have disqualified him from service. This is in contrast to other Republicans who have/had "other priorities" more important than serving their country in uniform. You must have missed this when you read his biography.

August 24, 2004

Campaigning among Americans living in Mexico, President George W. Bush's nephew, George P. Bush, called the use of pepperball guns 'reprehensible' and 'kind of barbarous.'

But Mexico does not officially object with the U.S. Border Patrol's use of eye-burning pepperballs, used to restrain combative illegal immigrants.

Use of the nonlethal pepperballs is controversial among Mexicans, but an agreement between the Mexican and U.S. governments says pepperball-launching guns can be used by Border Patrol agents as a means of detaining aggressive individuals. The agreement was implemented in June 2001 and is called the Cooperative Plan of Action over Border Security.

Pepperballs, plastic spheres designed to release a powdery type of pepper spray called oleoresin capsicum powder, help detain violent individuals who attack patrol agents. Agents aim the pepperballs at the ground or nearby fence or vehicle to cause the pepperball to open and release the powder. The powder is designed to cause coughing and irritate eyes so the individuals can be immobilized.

The pepperballs are an intermediate means of detaining violent individuals along the border so agents do not have to use their guns. The purpose of the balls are to release the powder so the violent situation can be diffused without injury.

I think you need someone closely allied with Bush. Bush is hugely popular in Texas, obviously, and like I said, Bush took the district easily (56% of I remember correctly), but Edwards didn't have a problem staying in.

But when you have someone who is obviously tied very closely to Bush, I think people would vote for a Bush over Edwards.

Wait, didn't we just do that in November in the P/VP election? :)-

George P. is going to wait a little while and then run for Governor. Probably in Texas, but maybe Florida. I don't think he's even thinking of running yet in the short run.

Whatever George P. is planning on, we can all agree that it ain't going out to fight the enemies of our country. This while unwed mothers are serving in hazardous fire zones. Disgraceful Hopefully there will be somebody like Duncan Hunter's son waiting for George P. in whatever primary he ends up running in.
