You seem to vastly underestimate the amount of political posturing that goes on in Washington DC every day.

You don't think this happens all the time? Heck -- New York Congressman Charles Rangel recently voted against a bill to re-institute the draft -- even after he himself had sponsored the bill in the first place!

If they voted for confirmation of Judge Bork merely for political posturing purposes, why would they have "adamantly opposed" him to begin with?

BTW, other than the handful of Repubs who voted against him, who were the ones adamantly opposed?
