Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Senate Majority and Senate Minority
And Monthly Calendars for the House Majority and Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
His timing is remarkably bad as well! I did not hear the flub, LOL I love it! I think the O'Connor thing took him by surprise and shook him up! He's not in the loop! LOL
President Bush might not have been inclined to make a recess appointment of Bolton, but NOW, knowing that it will be a WAR to get his SCOTUS nominee through, he may not want to fight for both Bolton and his nominee...
Voinivich's agruement that we are hated all over the world, therefore we can't have Bolton go to the UN is so preposterous...it isn't BOLTON'S fault that our reputation is supposedly so bad...it is because we won't bend over for the EU!!!
Just walked back in the room with the TV and saw a blurb about President Bush speaking about the O'Connor retirement, but didn't seen when or what channel...
did ya'll see it?
I just wonder if Senator Voinovih's little brother Paul is messed up in this oil for Food thing? Just a thought.
I do agree with him on the drug thing however.
Specter on c-span 1 right now!
It also said that Kennedy would be speaking later this morning re: the SCOTUS vacancy....THAT should be interesting!!!
Bush to talk at 11:15 EDT. Most cable channels will cover it.
FNC said they'd cover it, but I didn't catch the time.
Rats, I need a split screen for Byrd and Bush!
Sheets on CSPAN2!
Talking about O'Connor briefly saying something about the only woman appointed in the 20th century-- then had to check with an aide to see if he had the correct century.
I hope he has a nomination ready, and that it's someone GOOD...
President Bush on now!
Darn he won't nominate today, that's classy though, it would take away from her to start arguing about her sucessor today. I am sure he already has the pick. He said he would consult with members of Congress, he just didn't say which ones.
President Bush just gave WARNING to the dems about not making this a circus, but we know they aren't listening...they are already with Ralph Neas, figuring out how to stop any of Bush's nominees...
BTW, you didn't miss anything with Byrd, he is rattling about 4th of July....rattle, rattle, rattle..
Byrd waiving the Consitution around again! Giving a revisionist history lesson!
How rude!!! Frist takes to the senate floor and Spector runs to a microphone BEFORE the president speaks. We expect disrespect from the democrats, but it's downright maddening when republicans diss the President too.
Is Byrd drunk?
No just older than dirt. I think he's hilarious, at least he's never boring.
I agree about Specter, but had Frist not said something it would have made him look uninformed and weak, so he had to say something. Just my opinion!
Gosh why am I always defending our future adversary?
I read that and I am both amused and furious---in one speech she is adamant about separating church/state, but then describes the Supreme Court as "GOD"!!!!
That interview right there should get her at least kicked off of the leadership!!!! What a stupid moron!
