And the dems know the polling data among young African Americans. That scares them also...

It is amazing though: when the dems put up a black candidate they're just terrific (thinking of Obama), but when the pubbies do it it's a durn conspiracy. The Times does it again...

This is just great , But I've often questioned why the democRATs don't promote more blacks to higher office . The pubbies have a much better record . Now look for Jesse , Rev. AL , Charlie Rangle ,and a host of other blacks to lable Lynn Swann a sell out , an uncle tom and all sorts of racial insults . Unbelievable !!!

You are absolutely correct. The Reps have been endorsing/embracing minority candidates for eons. Yet, it is spun the other way in the MSM. Speaking as a white guy, of european descent, I would love to see JC Watts run for President in 2008.

Conspiracy theory alert ... neverdem has this article posted under the headline "G.O.P. Backs Blacks to Run to Lure Votes" here. Judging from the comments in that thread, I'd say the headline has been altered by the NYT. What's the story behind this story? Is there a flaming lib on the night shift at the NYT's web site who got their fingers slapped or was neverdem just goofin with us?

We have a very impressive SOS in Ohio. A black conservative, and he's going to run for Governor in 2006.

It's Ken Blackwell, and based on what I know of him and what I know today, he defintely has my vote.

I'm in Pa. If Lynn Swann Runs for governor, he'll have my vote. What a refreshing change for this state.

As far as race goes, who cares, this man has class and principles.

Republicans, especially this administration, has done more to promote qualified persons, no matter what ethnicity, into important positions. It has been done without fanfare, and i thas been done without 'tooting the horn' that they're promoting racial equality.

Only the Dums would stoop so lo as to attend Baptist Church services during an election year. Remember Kerry, jeez, he couldn't even keep time with the music!!!! How utterly obvious.

The headline just shows how race obssessed the Times is. I never even knew Lynn Swann was black until right now, but I did know he was a big football star. The headline should read Republicans Back Former Football Great, or something like that.

I hope he kicks Rendell's butt, and Mr. Swann, I am good for at least $25.00 towards your efforts, maybe more if God is willing.

Here in Maryland we have a black Democrat candidate for Senator, His name is Kweasy Mfume, (Drizzle Gray) and he has a great record of 5 illigitimate kids, getting fired from the NAACP because he couldnt keep his hands off the women there and being an obnoxious racist POS.

Against that we have a black man named Michael Steele who is the Repoublican Lt. Governor of Maryland. A man of high morals and supremely qualified for the job of Senator.

Hopefully Mr. Steele he will run and be elected . Md. already has a liberal midget woman as Senator we dont need a mental midget as well.

Go Swanney! I grew up in the Burgh, bleed black and gold and have always thought that Lynn Swann was the "classiest" player that the Steelers have ever produced. Notice that I did not say "best" player but he is certainly right up top there. When I saw Lynn Swann as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in 2004 I was so proud. If I still lived in Pa, I would vote for him in a second. All that I have to say is Ed Rendells' sorry ass is gone. :) Gooooooo Steelers!!

It is not clear that local Republican organizations will embrace all of those candidates, and several face primaries.

Why, because we're racists?

But Ms. Brazile also said several black Republicans could be formidable opponents because they could appeal not only to some black voters, but also to the party's conservative white base.

Apparently Donna has a bit of a different opinion than the NYT's. And she'd be correct. We'll vote for black candidates, Hispanics, Asian, Indian, white it does not matter. The key points are that they are charismatic, articulate, intelligent, energetic, competitive, apparently conservative from what I've heard of their positions and appear qualified. All important when running for office. Why wouldn't we support them?

Donna's one of the few people that has a head on her shoulders in this Party. She understands the meaning of the targeted swing state campaign in 2004 that raised the vote among blacks to GOP at 16% in Ohio. The Republican Party is going to take that campaign and move it nationally since it was so successful. We appoint minorities NOT because of affirmative action but because they are qualified. No one has been more inclusive on the merits than G.W.B. G.W.B. has Ken out there reaching to the black community in a non election year, never done in my memory. IMO, '06 is going to be a turning point for minorities seeking elective office. I don't mean we'll suddenly receive 50% of the vote of the black community, nor pedicting wins for anyone, but change isn't always obvious immediately.
